Suspension geometry / mechanism

Hi,

does anyone know if there are any diagrams on the net showing how car
suspensions work and the mechanism that the wheel is attached to the
chassi?

What I'm interested in is how a wheel (front or back) moves with respect to
the chassi, while the car moves on a) level, smooth road, b) bumpy road.
How does the mechanism differ in monster trucks?

In my sim I'm allowing the wheel to move only in the up/down direction with
respect to the body. Suspensions are modelled by a spring/damper connecting
each wheel to the chassi.

Should the wheel be allowed to have a roll (as in yaw/pitch/roll) with
respect to the chassi? To put this differently, when a car makes a turn, it
rolls in the outward direction. At that moment, are the wheels normal to
the ground (i.e. vertically up)?

Thanks for any help!

There are several different "mechanisms" used in cars... googling will
get you pretty far ;-)
