hawaii speeds?

I just tried hawaii for the first time this weekend and noticed that the qual
speeds that everyone was reaching on tal were above 197?  I can't do that with
the regular nascar, but on hawaii i did a 195 (tagd the wall out of the tri :()

What is different?

Sprint at .10 cents a minute is gonna get expensive!  Have to assume about a
hour for the shortest race.  Hmmm

More than likely the difference was that the race was being ran at
about 120 degrees.  This will significantly increase speeds.

And about it getting expensive, that's pretty much an understatement.
Alot of us are into the ludicrous category.

track temperatures are now usually set at 120 degrees at Dega causing
higher speeds. They added that option in a few weeks ago to change
temps

Probably the race where guys qualified at 197+ was at 120 degrees.  You
can run fast if you do it just right.   I saw Laneman get 198 on a
qualifing run.  WOW.  My best is 197.680, and that's only about 5th best.

Well, the Dega-heads on Hawaii want to squeeze out every mph they can, so
they set the temperature up to 120 degrees. Ridiculous, ain't it? Not very
realistic either, since that would slow the real cars down (air is less
dense = less horsepower).

If you're racing pickup races, they usually only last about 15 minutes
(5-10%). Series races are longer, typically in the range of 15-40%
depending on the series.

Also when the track get too hot (ie:120 degress) it gets more slippery, not more
traction.
