Breaking the 600,000 bytes barrier?

by Andrea A. Ross » Mon, 05 Jun 1995 04:00:00

This is probably a pretty stupid question, but if someone can
humor me by ansering it:

I'm having great trouble freeing up 600,000 bytes of memory in order
to run F1GP. My Config.sys looks something like:

device=himem.sys
dos=high,umb

and I have no autoexec.bat. I still am not able to get above 580,000.
Using QEMM I get to 595,000 which is still not enough. Can anyone
help? I've tried DOS 6.21, 6.22 and 7.0. I have V1.04 of F1GP.

Are you running any other software? Like mouse drivers, or sound card drivers?
If you are add:
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe to your config sys
and load all the other drivers high
i can get well over 600 free with gplap. splitim, ccpit, etc all running
good luck

I seem to remember that the upgrade for F1GP ( v. 1.05? ) includes
a 'make boot disk' facility for just this sort of problem as part
of its install program.

With QEMM you should be able to free up at least 630.000 bytes. Optimize
could do this for you.
