TOCA - Don't buy!

Just bought TOCA today, and it's going straight back to EB. It is exactly
the same as the demo, i.e. VGA type slow graphics, no setup, races are too
easy, can't even choose difficulty in Championship mode, and irritating CD
slow access (as TR2).
If you like slow arcade games, this is for you. Otherwise give it a very
wide berth.
Think I'll reload F1RS now!

What system do you have ??
Do have a 3Dfx for example.
I've seen it in VGA mode and it looks a little dated, but I've also seen it in
3Dfx mode. What an improvement !

Will probably but today or tomorrow

Regards

Andrew

Yes 3Dfx is alot better, but its not a good (graphic wise) as
NFS2SE.  Mind you the headlight reflecting on the wet tarmac
is very impressive.

You guys are on another planet! Of course I've got a 3Dfx card (and a
233K6), and it's
still crap! Look at Pod, look at NFS2SE, look at F1RS, look at even
International Rally. Look at ANYTHING else and see the difference!
Anyway, it's not the looks that bother me so much, it's the pathetic
gameplay. It's so simple, no setups, no difficulty setting in championship
mode, no nothing! I woon the first 8 races in championship mode without ever
having even practiced on the circuits!
you guys can keep TOCa, and leave the big boys to the real challenges like
F1RS.

The TOCA graphics are "good enough" though, and more importantly it
seems to have decent gameplay (unlike the BORING NFS2).

This game is a real winner ! You should own it...
There are no set-up okay... but it's a real fun with excellent driving
physics... better than NFS or Test drive series !!!

I will as soon as it's available on this side of the pond. The TOCA
demo is a riot, I just want more tracks!

TOCA looks way better than the ultra-low-polygon POD.

Does look better than TOCA, but gameplay is crap.

The demo has the best gameplay of any 3dfx arcade yet. If the game is
more of the same as you say, it sounds like a real winner!

Obviously you wanted a sim, not an arcade racer. That's fine, but
that's just your taste, that doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's just
silly to compare TOCA to F1RS - the games are in two different genres.

Sorry, but I love the demo.  Not for the graphics, but for the racing
style ...

Wish we had it here in the states !!

That's what the demo is for ...  The graphics are what they are.  I'm
buying it because its fun to drive. The nice graphics are a bonus.

Just FYI, the nice graphics in NFS2/Se don't improve the replay
value...  I played NFS1 for over a year but have already lost interest
in NFS2/SE

Iain - what hardware were you using? A friend bought it yesterday and we
tried it out on my PC last night (P200MMX, 3dfx card). Initially, it hung
when going into the game, so I tried what seemed to be the non-accelerated
mode. Jerkovision, blocky graphics etc. Retried the Direct3D mode and it
worked - looked much nicer, reasonably smooth. Had trouble with my wheel
setup, so we instead went into split screen two player mode using the
keyboard. Shame about the lact of other competitors, but it was really good
fun (for a mindless arcade blast).

We then tried split screen F1RS and this proved almost impossible to
control on the keyboard. So while TOCA isn't as realistic or nice looking
as F1RS, it is easier and more fun in multiplayer. (When my mate has a
wheel, I suspect F1RS will be the business though).
