F1RS2/MGP illegal operation on exit

F1RS2/MGP illegal operation on exit

by Sam Nichol » Tue, 29 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I've got the F1RS2/MGP demo working on my system.  I'm using the
DirectX v6 version and it runs fine.  However, when I exit the game
and the Win95 desktop reappears, I get a error dialog saying that
MGP caused an illegal instruction (or operation, I can't remember).
I can't make this dialog go away.  After hitting the close button,
it just reappears.  I've tried hitting the close button about 30
times and it won't go away.

At this point, if I hit control-alt-delete to get the process list,
nothing happens.  And when I shutdown windows, it never gets to the
"you may now turn off your computer" screen.  When I reboot, windows
says that it did not shutdown properly and goes through the filesystem
check.

Anyone else having this problem?  Any advice?

I had the same thing with the original F1RS. This was using a V2200 card
and directX 5. It would also just dump me back to the desktop after a
while, too. I got no help, and returned the game. Now I have Windows98 and
the new demo works fine. The problem might be Win95.

Nope, it's not W95.... I use that and it's ok!  I also use Direct X6,
so it may be
that?  Up-grade....

Jammer, I don't understand.  Are you having the problem?  If so, then why
do you rule out W95?  If not, then why do you suspect Direct X6?  Also,
what do you intend to upgrade?

I am using a V2100 card (Diamond Stealth S220).  Thanks for the responses.
Nice to know I'm not alone.

BTW, very cool sim!
