Nfs2 is the best game ever!

Better than C&C and RA too!

>Nfs2 is the best game ever!

It is total crap, the worst driving game ever made. Terrible control,
lousy cars (unrealistic and all feel the same), boring fantasy tracks
(no non-circuits, no cops), horrendous frame rate problems, crappy
user interface, even the music sucks. There is just nothing to like
about this game.

Maybe you could post why you like it? A content free "it's great" is
not very useful for a game with such a [deserved] bad reputation.

True, he should have said more, but I just have to disagree with you on
several of those points.  The cars DO sound and feel different unlike Test
Drive: Off Road where all trucks sounded like a semi and the car horns
reminded me of my dad's old Mitsubishi.  Yes, the cops are gone, but who
needs them when you've got semitrucks, school buses, limos, and armored
cars.  If you say your game runs awful on a P200 then it must be a really
crappy P200 because I'm on a P200/32MB RAM with all details on and it is
MUCH faster than NFS1.  Music is alot better too (snappier beat and changes
with car's performance), the interface is cool too.  The only thing I agree
with you on is the track part.

There, now how's THAT for content!

Best regards,
Sam

Please, don't start this ***again. This is pure BS. With the***pit
turned on NFS2 is AT LEAST twice as slow as NFS 1, on any system.

It's a matter of taste, but I found the NFS2 music anoying. The NFS1
music was just CD tracks, only in the menus, but it rocked.

The interface is just BAD, and that is my professional opinion as
someone with univerity post-graduate computer science studies in user
interfaces, plus 13 years experience implementing successful ones.
NFS2 makes fundamantal interface errors, like only allowing menus to
scroll in one direction, and only showing one item at a time, both
combining to make it difficult to select or even find the item you
want. That's the basic kind of thing you learn in about the first five
minutes of a user interface development course. Other basic errors -
like flashy "sliding" menus that you have to wait extra time for - are
just minor annoyances, but errors nonetheless.

Which is a pretty important part. I just bought "Network Q RAC Rally"
- good driving gameplay, and over *300 MILES* of real-world terrain on
28 tracks. Plus an addon of 10 more tracks available. I played for six
hours last night and I haven't even played all the tracks yet. What
the hell has EA been doing the last two years?

Good - you provided reasons for your opinions, which I appreciate. All
except the frame-rate nonsense.

There you go again.  Why do you insist that this is the case?  Because
of your own personal experience?

So just because you have "post-graduate computer science studies"
means that you are the expert?  User interfaces are a matter of
personal taste.  Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that
someone else won't.  And what exactly is a "successful" user
interface?

I have no problem locating the items that I am looking for.  It just
takes about 5 minutes to familiarize yourself with the way things are
set up.

I will third that motion.  The tracks suck.

Hmm, try it on an MMX system, on my 166MMX the frame rate is constantly
high.

Because it's the truth. Period. Anyone who claims otherwise is either
fooling themselves or doesn't know what they are talking about.

Combined with 13 years professional experience in the field, yes it
does.

Well, this prooves for sure that YOU are not an expert. Nothing could
be further from the truth. User interface design is a highly
scientific field, following basic principles of human perception and
interaction that have been scientifically researched for decades.

A) One that doesn't break the most basic rules that the science of
user interface research has discovered, and

B) Makes money.

A good user interface (especially for a task as simple as setting up
and arcade game) does not take ANY time to "familiarize yourself". And
of course, a good one doesn't continually irritate you by making it
slow to select what you want.

I'm afraid I have to share this chaps comments on NFS 2. As a great fan
of the original NFS, I found NFS2 a complete backward step. Am I correct
in presuming non of the original development team were involved in this
effort, or did they just not listen to the comments of avid NFS fans?

Sure, NFS2 is very pretty, with fancy video clips and music, but as soon as
you get into the game there is nothing whatsoever to rant about (apart from
how bad it is). Twitchy, over-sensitive controls. Awful sound effects. Bad
tracks.
Exactly what has been said before. About the *only* thing I liked about
NFS2
was that I could finally use my pedals, which seemed a waste of time
because
you're either on the power or off anyway - what happened to power
oversteer?!

Anyone who liked NFS just the way it was, with a few minor foibles :- DONT
buy NFS2.
Anyone who found NFS too hard, wanted something more basic :- TRY NFS2
before you
buy it :-)

Just my 2 penneth.

Cheers,
Dan Howell
