GPL Amazing. Still!

I haven't played GPL for a while. New games at Christmas work etc. meant
I hadn't played it. Then I picked it up at the weekend, a friend had
been learning Rouen. Now I'm ***ed again!!!

What are the new sounds and graphics like? How are the track editing
projects? Are there any new tracks yet?

Just trying to catch up after too long away from the best game ever!!

Thanks,

Scott

There are some very nice sounds and carsets out for GPL, I took a
suggestion from Alison Hine's site and tried the sounds and
carset she mentions on her news page and it really does add
a nice polish to an already classic sim.

I'm using Patrick's great soundpack (love that Eagle engine)
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~expatjen/patsound.htm

And Joe's excellent '67 GPL carset at (great looking paintjobs):
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I got the recommendation to try them from Alison's great GPL website:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~alison/gpl/

My thanks to all the nice people like Alison, Patrick and Joe who are
contributing these excellent resources to make GPL an even better
sim.

Seeyas on the track.

Yeah, this is great! The only thing what bothers me, is that a few
drivers are now blinding fast. I mean. Clark now drives low 20's at
Kyalami lap after lap with a full tank in a Grand Prix. Hey, I am no
Wolfgang Woeger or Ian Lake!  Beside that, as said, a great carset!

These people earn a medal!

Hmm... I haven't raced the AI at all since after the 2nd or 3rd day
after GPL's release, after Doktor's Grandstand and then VROC popped
up, I've raced nothing but human online opponents ever since.

But I think I noticed a section in that GPLSeason program that you use to
install the carset where you can tweak the driver stats (a very nice
utility by the way), but yeah I could see how it would be a hastle
to go reduce the level of every-driver.

Maybe there is a tweak you can do which will reduce the overall
driver rating without having to modify each individually.

The paintjobs are outstanding I had the oppportunity to race yesterday
in a race with lots of non-lotuses and got to see some great looking
Coventry's (Coopers) and Murasama's (Hondas) along with the usual complement
of Ferrari's and Eagles, almost felt like I was participating in a
real 1967 race.

Version 1.03 of GPL AI Tweaker, by Kari Ikonen, is a very nice program that
allows adjusting the speeds of all the AI drivers simultaneously, while
maintaining the relative skill levels (i.e., Clark will still be faster than
Bandini).  It can be found at http://www.grandprix2.com/gpl/

It also can be used to adjust the probabilities of various AI mechanical
failures and driver errors, and override the improvement of the AI that
occurs as your own lap times get lower.

<Snip advise about altering AI parameters>

Hi John & Brian,

Thanks for the advise. My "problem" however is not how to set the AI
strength, but that the quality of this carset, hence the word set, is
a bit less because of this. Clark is in the race just as fast as he is
in practice. This wasn't the case in the original AI parameters.

It is a rather small "problem", though.

Ahh gotcha Remco, hopefully the author of this great Carset is
getting similar feedback to encourage him to tweak the AI down
a bit and make the carset perfect :-)

Maybe one of these days I will try out racing the AI and see
what I think, then send him feedback if I find them overly tough.
