Some driving advice needed.

Whenever I start or restart in N2002 both against the AI and on-line I find
that I'm losing loads of places. It can't be set-up related as I lose the
places even in fixed set-up races.

It is obviously my driving. Can anyone give some tips on how to make better
starts?

Cheers Lee

Are you starting off in 3rd?  Are you shifting up to soon?

Try starting in first, and quickly shifting to second upon taking the
green.
Using first keeps the rpm's up.

I start in second, perhaps 1st at Marty or something.  I am just the
opposite.  I could pass 3 rows of cars at most tracks on the start if I
pushed it or passed before the start finish low.  Perhaps your gearing
though that wouldn't explain the fixed setups problem.  How about
recalibrating your wheel?  When you do, don't quite depress your gas or
brake all the way.  Almost but not quite.

Make sure you are starting in 1st or 2nd gear.  You must not be jumping the starts like 98% of the
other idiots out there...   :)

Thanks very much to those that replied. To answer I usually start in 2nd
gear as in 1st I find that I  start to slide sideways when I put my foot
down. Obviously something I'm going to have to work on.

Lee....

Try to use a "starting gear" that has the revs at between 5,000 rpm and
6,000 rpm.  That will be 2nd gear at most tracks.  Then, make sure you don't
get "wheel spin" when depressing the accelerator (easy to do in a WC cup
car)........do it evenly and slowly, then rev up to 9,000 rpm before
shifting....same with 3rd gear....then 4th.  Make sure your shifts are clean
and don't "speed shift".....it doesn't help you and it can hurt you if you
miss a shift.  I've found some of the default setups don't have an optimized
"start/restart" gear......and that's silly since at most oval tracks you
don't need to set critical gearing increments like you do on a road course
(especially at ovals where no shifting is used during a lap).  So, check
that gearing at reset your "start/restart" gear to get better engine torque.

Hope that's what your are looking for?
