No Sound with Soundblaster AudioPCI 64V

Just purchased a Gateway 300Mhz Pentium II with a SoundBlaster AudioPCI
64V, but Nascar 2 doesn't recognize the audio card, and I'm getting no
audio. Are there drivers or patches available for this sound card?  I've
left a message on Sierra's technical message board, but haven't had any
resolution there.  Is there a workaround?

Thanks,
Dale

What's your operating system Dale?

If Win95/98 shut down and restart in "MS-DOS Mode"
Get into your Nascar directory and run it from there.

If you run N2 from within W95 and do not reboot it will
work. You must have the DOS legacy soundcard setup
in W95 though. But I would have expected that it would
be properly setup from the factory. Also, if you are
rebooting into DOS you have to run EMM386 and then
run a TSR (APINIT ) to load the DOS support. The latter
method does not work for me, so I run it from within
W95.

Same here... I have a PII 400 and a Sound Blaster PCI 128 and Nascar2
doesn't recognize it... The setup.exe file tells me I have an Ensoniq
Stereo card... What can I do? I even tried to restart in DOS mode, but
that doesn't do any good. Did I mention I was running under Win98? Any
input would be nice... I really want to be able to play Nascar2 with
sound on my new PC (specially because it looks good with my new
monitor...) Thanks!

The Soundblaster card that you have is not really a Soundblaster. It
is a renamed Ensoniq PCI audio card. The reason NASCAR 2 is not
working with it is because it is detecting it as an older type of
Ensoniq card (there were no pci audio cards when n2 came out. Don't
restart in DOS mode, the card requires EMM386 for DOS SB emulation,
which can often interfere with N2. Go to an MS DOS prompt in Windows
95 and type the word "SET" (without quotes) and press enter. You
should see a line the starts with BLASTER= followed by some letters
and numbers, write this line down- The number after A is your Address,
the number after I is your IRQ, and the number after D is DMA. There
may be more, but do not be concerned with them. If you do not have the
BLASTER= line than the cards legacy device is not set up properly. Now
go to the NASCAR 2 sound setup. Select Sound Blaster Stereo from the
list of cards and change the address, irq and dma so they reflect the
settings in your BLASTER = line. It should work fine then. Creative
Labs should not have called the card a SoundBlaster when they bought
Ensoniq, it sure seems to cause a lot of confusion as a result.
