I have had plenty of trouble getting good sound from GPL with my SB
live! card, but today I finally did something that seems to fix the
problem once and for all...

It seems the SB cards have good hardware, but comes with lousy
drivers... So i came across a very good website:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

They have made completely new drivers for a wide range of SB cards (all
those with 10k1 and 10k2 DSPs, wich starts from SB 512 PCI, if I am not
mistaken, and goes up through the Audigy range, almost any version),
there are so many features with these drivers I spent 3 days before I
could work out how to set my studio pc with audigy2...

Anyway, I also tried installing these drivers on my *** computer with
a SB live! 5.1 card, and there you go: Nice sound in GPL, hardware
accelation set to max.

I haven't tried NR2003, but my guess is it'll work nicely as well...

This *may* be old news, but anyway, here goes.

Thanks for the link, Asgeir! Looks like I dumped my SBLive too early.
I'll try these drivers once they support the Audigy2 ZS series. Right
now I have a decent working setup using the creative drivers.

Thanks for this link. I have been trying to get a sound blaster live to
work for a week now, and I hope this solves some of the problems I am
having.

That's quite a find.  I tried for over 6 months to find a solution to the
SBLive problems with GPL and ended up replacing the card.
