Help! Nascar Racing 4

by DJ » Fri, 14 Nov 2003 20:16:08

Hi guys,
Just bought Nascar Racing 4...everything installs just fine, i set the
options (have tried d3d and opengl...640x480 800x600 and 1024x768) but it
refuses to get past the intro videos, this is on both windows 98 and XP. My
system is a celeron 2.2 with 512mb ram and a 64mb geforce 2 Ti...so i dont
think thats the problem, someone suggested to me that it could be the
monitor, but i dunno anyone else agree with that? its a no name 15"
analog...XP doesnt even detect it and its installed as default monitor or
something. Sometimes on 98 I will get a black screen with a hour glass,
other times the screens all garbled, sometimes all over the place sometimes
3/4 of the screen will be aqua then the bottom 1/4 is garbled stuff...with
XP it just crashes or hangs at a black screen..ive also tried running it in
compatibility mode, changing drivers the works...im at a loss does this game
simply not like my machine?
thanks to all that can help

I don't have XP so I can't advise you there.  I do know n4 has some
pretty *** copy protection so you might want to try using a nocd.exe to
verify that your cdrom drive can sucessfully get through the copy
protection.   If the game works and runs properly with the nocd, then you
are probably looking at replacing your cdrom with a newer drive.  Of course
the copy protection will see the new drive and probably throw a hissy fit.
Good luck there.  One caveat...the last three Papyrus products will not
work online with a nocd.  you can run it offline with a nocd, but not
online.

Next the monitor.  If windows is not detecting it, try getting it
reported as a default plug and play monitor instead of just a default
monitor.   I would examine the manufactuer id plate...the spot where a
serial number and model number should be shown and see if you can download
specific drivers for that product from a manufactuer's website.

I don't run XP, so I can't say for sure.  But, maybe it's a video driver issue?
