To be more specific, GPL won Best Racing Game of 1998.  The other
nominees were F1RS, Viper and NFS3.  The current tally of the folks
reading the website is NFS3 71%, GPL 16%, F1RS 8% and Viper 5%.  This is
still ongoing, so cast your vote if interested.

What was even nicer to see was that GPL was one of the nominees for Game
of the Year. It, of course, lost, but the fact that it was the only
Racing game nominated, and that there weren't even any Flight Sims or
Sports games nominated was pretty impressive. CNET's Gamecenter were one
of the few reviewers who realized how revolutionary this sim is. The
other nominees were Half Life (the Winner), Baldur's Gate, Grim
Fandango,  Railroad Tycoon II, Starcraft and Thief.

GPL is being hammered in the readers poll, though.  It only has 1% of
the 1599 votes - Baldur's Gate (31%), Half Life (30%), StarCraft (22%),
Grim Fandango (8%), Thief (6%), Railroad Tycoon II (3%). This isn't
surprising given how much more the mainstream games sell. Once again,
you can still cast your vote if you are interested.
