Yes...I know, but you guys know _EVERYTHING_! ;-)

I've been given a DVD drive, but it has no markings on it that give away the
manufacturer or model.

If I replace my CDROM with it, what will I need to do about a driver, or
will W98 recognise it?

Thanks.

It'll recognise it no probs. :).  Even the win98 boot disk should find it no
probs.

All the best,

Hmmm...

There's something _seriously_ wrong with M$ software here, if you're right!
;-D

Thanks, I'll slap it in, then.

Don't need drivers......at least I've never come across one that did

Most likely, nothing.  It uses the standard Windows driver.

My vote would go for PowerDVD XP 4.  There are a couple of versions, and I
have the high-end one that does Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Decoding.

The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, along with PowerDVD XP 4 with DTS support and
the Klipch ProMedia 5.1 setup I have really rocks for Movies.  If I were
forced to give up either my living room setup or my computer setup at
gunpoint, the living room setup would exit, stage-right.

http://www.maximusdvd.com/ which also allows DVD playback in Media
Player. (Mind you, iirc there is a codec hidden away in the Windows 98 CD
somewhere).

PowerDVD 5 is due any minute now as well.
