GPLDUMP v0.6.1 for Windows

by Juha Kallioin » Wed, 02 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hello world :-)

The Long Awaited (?) Windows version of GPLDump has reached
a state in which it can be released to the public (you) for
beta testing.

A lot has changed and it has taken a long time to do it,
mostly because of my lazyness, though :-)

This version will probably please those who want to compare
two hotlaps and see where they are losing time. You can also
drive a multi-lap hotlap-session and load that replay up
and compare any two laps on that session.

Here's the quick readme included in the zip file:

-----
                            GPLDUMP v0.6.1

                           Wed Jun 02, 1999

THIS IS DRAFT VERSION README. I JUST WANTED TO
GET THIS PROGRAM OUT TO BETA TESTING AS FAST AS
I COULD. FIND OUT HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS BY TRIAL
AND ERROR AND LET ME KNOW OF ANY BUGS YOU FIND!

            GPLDUMP IS IN BETA STATE!

            GPLDUMP IS IN BETA STATE!

            (it may crash) :-)

QUICKSTART

 - Extract GPLDump from the zip file to any location you want.
 - Doubleclick on GPLDump's icon.
 - From File menu, choose Open...
 - Select a SINGLE PLAYER replay. A hotlap downloaded from the
Net, or one of the example replays, that came with GPL, work
   just fine.
 - Press 'Show Chart'
 - Admire the view :-)

WHAT's NEW?
 0.6.1:
 + First public windows-only release.
 + Linux support ends.
+ v0.0.5 can still be found from the distribution site.
+ Supports only single player replays, although multilap
   replays are allowed.

 0.0.5:
+ Just a small bugfix to the Track name part which can be
   seen with the '-i' option.

 0.0.4:
+ Major modification of previous release and numerous bug
   fixes.

 0.0.1:
 + First public release.

WHAT IS IT?

Gpldump is a Windows utility, which can be used to extract all
kinds of information from a GPL replay file. This info can then be
viewed on a chart and compared to another replay file.

You can get the latest version at:

 http://www.racesimcentral.net/~kaltsi/

WHY WAS IT DONE?

The need for this utility came when we wanted to keep lap time
statistics about our Finnish GPL Championships online league
races. The replay files have that lap time info in them, so it is very
easy to extract and display.

Things have evolved a bit since and now it can be used as a data
analyzer for GPL hotlaps.

WHAT CAN IT DO?

Compare two 'hotlaps' and see where you are losing time.
It can also display all kinds of other available info I was able
to extract from the replay files.

All data seen is based on the assumption that 2000 units of GPL
replay distance is 1 meter in our real world. Some data is represented
in internal GPL format (ie. not converted to our units).

There are bound to be inaccuracies in the data (ie. GPLDump shows
that your speed at point A is 235 km/h and GPL itself shows 234 km/h).

The data displayed should be viewed keeping this in mind.

HOW TO USE IT?

Trial and error :-)
The chart-display supports zooming in and scrolling with
the mouse. Zooming in and out is done with the left mousebutton
and scrolling is done with the right mousebutton.

FINAL WORDS

Thanks to Papyrus for creating Grand Prix Legends. Words can not
describe how much I like this sim, so I won't even try :-)

Special thanks to Casper Gripenberg for helping me extract the
info out of the replay file.

Hello to the FGPLC racing dudes. Everybody go visit the Finnish
GPL Championships pages at:
