While racing a 50% Martinsville race, it sort of bugged me that
although a realistic number of cars spin out and touch the walls at
short tracks, very few actually bring out the caution. This results in
impossible situations like caution-free Bristol races(!). Another
thing I noted is that when racing on steeply banked superspeedways
like Michigan, when a car spins and hits the walls, it just stops
there, turns around and goes to pit. No yellow! Surely a 150mph crash
into a wall would at least bring out a caution, nevermind how many
cars were involved.
So I got to thinking: is there any information on how to adjust the
required seriousness of an accident to bring out a yellow flag, or is
it hardcoded? It would be nice to have loads of cautions in Bristol
and almost none in Talladega (if everything goes right that is - as
prooved by the Touchstone Energy 300).
