CAn't run TPTCC from dos

by Verne Harri » Sat, 13 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I tried to boot my TPTCC game from dos tonight and got a line
I've never seen before. It says "unable to initialize UI system". The
game runs fine from the dos window in my Win95, but won't load form
dos. Can anyone tell me what this means, or how to get around it. I
prefer to run my racing game(s) from dos as apposed to the dos window.

Thanks in advance my fellow group(ies)

I'm not sure why it's not working from a reboot, but I run the TPTCC under
dos mode and I have no problems.  Just shut down to dos mode from the Start
menu & you should get full dos performance without Win 95 interfering.
Hope this helps.

Hello Verne

I'm only guessing but I would say that UI stands for
"User Input" and that would suggest that your mouse is not
set up for DOS. Windows has it's own mouse driver so hence
the problem does not occure. Dos on the other hand needs one
setup.
You will need to load a mouse driver into memory from the
DOSSTART.BAT file which lives in your Windows directory. I
would say that possibly your CD-Rom and Sound Card will also
require setting up for True Dos.

Hope I'm on the right track for your problem.

Cheers

I've tried this too. I make sure that I run my mouse driver first. I
can run my N2 fine whereas I cannot run my TPTCC in the same prompt. I
tried the "F8" trick to no avail also. I then tried it with my N2 and
had no problems......hmmmmmmm. I'm baffled, but at least I can run it
from my Win95 dos prompt.   Still, I hope someone can tell me what's
wrong.

Thanks for your help though Nigel

Hi Verne,

I can't say I've seen this message - although I saw a lot in
development!

One thing that kept catching me out was if one of the track
directories was empty or if there were more than 32 tracks.

Give that a check and see if it helps.
