One way cable internet access...

Hello everyone...I live in a populated suburban area in the US. All around
me is two way cable internet access (cable in, cable out). However I live in
a small region where the company only offers one way cable internet access.
Meaning it comes in through cable but goes out over your phone line. I still
am tempted to try it. I wonder how this would be for on line ***  namely
GPL at VROC?

Does anyone have any experience with this one way service? They told me it
could be up to three years before two way is offered. I live in the stone
age here. Wait I just seen a dinosaur walk by outside...

Hope to hear from you.

I really can't say.  I only remember a Journalist for one of the Legit
PC mags...like PC Magazine or Windows...one of the thick business types,
that HATED one way cable.  Your surfing will be fast but I don't think
you'd see any benefit over a good dial-up connection for most games..
Only hearsay mind you.

Downloading bandwidth is not really an important factor for online games.
Latency and upload speed is much more essential for a quality experience in
multiplayer racing.

That's not saying it will be worse.  If you can afford it, then you'll see a
great increase in download speed, all depending if you need that gain for
your normal internet browsing.

I have a "one-way" cable modem.  MediaOne has two-way access all around me,
but we are stuck with 28.8Kbps up and as much as 3.5Mbps down.  All the down
bandwith in the world won't make a better *** connection if you don't
have the up bandwith.  Don't get me wrong.  One-way cable is definitely
better than a 56Kbps modem for on-line ***.  Just don't plan on doing any
hosting.

Now the good news (for me).  ADSL just became available in my area!  for
$49/mo I can get 512Kbps down and 128Kbps up.  From what I hear that should
be good for hosting about 12 on VROC.  I've also read that ADSL is more
consistent than cable.  And - no more dialing to connect.  Just click and
go!
