I'm guessing this game is European. I downloaded a "demo" from
athird-oarty website. It has really nice graphics, and it's a smooth-
running game, but the damn thing seems only to have keyboard controls!
It looks to be fun, but playing with the keyboard sucks. Is there a
patch, or am I missing something?

Let me know.

I have "Rally Car Championship", is that what you mean?  On my PII-300, I
can not use the wheel or pedals because the game (DOS) wants an ancient
slow IO interface.  This bits!  Other games run just fine using W95's game
controller interface, yet RCC can't.  Not much fun at all and I hardly ever
play it because of that.  The only way to make it work would be to plug in
a PCI game controller card which are real hard to find, and something it
shouldn't require anyway.

You probably mean Europress' International Rally Championship which was
released last fall. You could check out the official IRC websites

        http://www.europress.com.au/irc/default.htm
        http://www.europress.co.uk/rally/rallyhome.html

but I doubt if you'll find any patches for the demo. They did release a
Direct3D version of the demo and several patches for the game itself, but
I'm pretty sure you'll have to buy the full version to get any liberties
regarding the controller options.

It is a rather enjoyable game, I admit. At least with 3D acceleration and
a wheel. After hours of precision racing and fine tuning with F1RS it's
primarily refreshing and relaxing to lead a rally car through night or
snow, where sliding through corners is more of a rule than an exception.

Nope, even in the full game you can only use the keyboard!!!!!
I was disapointed as the graphics and all do look nice but without
good controls... I even tried to use "joyemu"  a program that assigns
keyboard controls to your joystick but that didnt work either...

This is utter nonsense. I have the full game up & running on a small LAN &
have the game working both with MS Sidewinder Pro & Gravis Analogue pro
joysticks.

Can't speak for the demo however but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a
problem.

It never fails to amaze me how companies think they can persuade people to
shell out hard earned cash for a game they can't properly test (Need for
Speed 2 SE anyone?).

Visit the Europress Web Site and pick up the patch that allows you to
configure Wheels.

Works fine for me !

Try Network Q RAC Ralley Championship.  Its the earlier version by
Europress and its much better.  It really flies and is a good
representation of a UK forest rally.  Works fine with a wheel.
