Most Common Track Data Format?

What is the most common track data format?
And is there a recommended editor?

Maybe I should ask: What is the most useful track data format :-)

I think the GP2 track format is the best supported with an editor available
and hundreds of tracks available.
The GP2 format has many defficiencies such as a maximum track length, so
nowadays I think the GPL format is the one to choose.
It  maybe worth waiting for GP3
