Toca Demo runs like a dog (Disappointed)

I'm ran the Toca demo on my Intel P166mmx, 32EDO last night
with disappointing results. The frame rate was pathetic.
Admittingly I only have a Virge 3D video card but it shouldn't
be as bad as it was. I had detail on Low and Grahics Res on
medium. Maybe got 7-8 FPS.
OK I agree I could do with a better video card but then
Nascar2 runs smooth with all details on except clouds and
infield. 39 cars drawn ahead and the cars heard is maxed out.
I normally run games from full DOS not Windows but Nascar
still runs fine through Win95 when I race over Kali95.

It could be something I have set in Win 95 thats the problem
so any suggestions would be welcome.

My 2 cents worth...........

Codemasters should have written versions for DOS SVGA and 3DFX
because dispite the fact the DOS is old it still kicks the
***out of Windoze when it comes to games. Windows is like
using a Kenworth to win a race on a Go-Kart track. Too big and
clumsy. Windows power overheads is to high.

I hope Papyrus doesn't do Nascar3 for Win95 only.

Cheers

I have to say that Windows 95 isn't as bad as I thought it was,
when it comes to games. I have a P133 with a 3Dfx card. The
TOCA demo, F1RS demo, Quake II demo, and Jedi Knight
demo all ran just fine in medium or high resolution with all detail
turned on. The only thing that ran slowly was the CART PR
demo.

You are right, TOCA needs a fast 3d card ... like a 3dfx.  The software
rendering mode is pittiful and the 3dfx version is awesome (not
necessarily the prettiest)...

Yup...I agree.  My machine is the same spec as yours.  I saw a big jump
in framerates in all games when I upgraded to the 2.43 3Dfx drivers.

I run the TOCA demo with full detail, and it's quite smooth.  CPR runs
at 20-30 fps depending on where I am on the track, with***pit off.  It
runs 14-24 fps with the***pit on.

I got the toca demo & it ran fine on a p100 (clocked to 120) 32 meg & 3DFX.
I got the game too & it runs perfectly well as a server too!! But the
game's let down by the naff points limit needed to progress through the
series
