Well, looking over this, I am not near as efficient with my knowledge of the
English language and grammer as some of the other post's I have read, cause
in Texas, we aint know for our grammer.<G>
But, I still felt a little insulted by his reveiw and felt the need to voice
my opinion to him as well, and point out my own observations on top of the
fine examples I have seen from some of you gent's.
I am not expecting to be as proficient as most of you, but I am not as near
closed minded as some of the Nascar ***s I compete with on TEN, and I
gotta admit, your style of racing is EXTREMELY difficult, and all of you
with your fancy computers and lap times have me jealous.....but I am still
having fun with it, and trying to learn some about the rest of the worlds
racing.
I will try in the future to not make an ass out of myself and actually LEARN
the names of the tracks ( trying to save you all some time replying back to
me to learn the name of the German track <BG>)
I hope that I in some way added to the fact of the sim racing world disgust
of him and AVAULT, and also hope I didnt embarass myself or the racing
community too much <G>

Craig,
I must admit today is the first day I came by your site, and I am most
apauled by your review of GPL.
I am kinda poor by todays CPU trends, and thus have to settle with my 166mmx
with no graphic accelerators and thus, only get about 7 fps.....yet I still
consider this to be the FINEST sim I have yet to try. I also must admit I am
an avid oval track racer, and dread the trips to Sears or Watkins Glen on N2
as much as I dread anything.....but GPL is in my opinion Sierras finest
effort.
Although I am in your category as *** sim, I am alone with everyone I
know in Austin in that respect, but yet, everyone that sees this sim, is as
amazed as myself on the realism of it.
You dont sound like a sim fan by any means to me, and maybe a little
nascar99 by EA or Need for Speed3 is more up your alley....cause going down
a strait on GPL, I am more worried about controlling the car than if the
trees are flat or truly like trees....I am not sure if there are any
sightseeing games out there, but if I happen to come across one, you will be
the first I recommend it too......but I would recommend that you might get
faster lap time and be more competitive if you stop worrying about the off
track graphics or trying to kill a track official and actually focus on the
track.
Also, Sierra was MOST gracious to include a little book in my version of GPL
called four wheel drift where any and all modifications are explained along
with certain track tips for adjusting......but any sim racer knows that
until you actually drive around and learn a track and the car, that any
modifications to your car will not matter cause you are unaware of the
problems with the car, as the problems are more likely within yourself.
About your comment of wishing for arcade features.....well last time I
cranked up GPL, I noticed this little feature called NO DAMAGE.......now I
am a little ignorant to other sims as I am an avid racer, but I doubt very
seriously that any flight sim out there has a feature where you can nose
dive into the earth at full speed, bounce around then pull the yoke back up
and fly as if nothing happened......this I think constitutes as an ARCADE
feature. Also the nice guys at Sierra implemented the shift r feature, with
the added benefit of placing your car back on the track at the exact spot
you crashed, unlike N2's shift r feature....and since I am a sim racer, I
always use damage, and without that nice addition, I would never see the
full track at Germanys track as I have yet to complete 2-3 corners without
using that feature. Another ARCADE type feature.
I will probably not return for any more reviews as you missed the ball
entirely on this new title from sierra and I would be unwilling to take any
advise or comments seriously on any other new titles......and thankfully so.
I truly hope no one else takes you seriously on this review as they would be
missing out on in my opinion, 1998's best release.
In the future, about any other racing sims.....I am a SIM ***, and still
it takes me weeks before I would consider myself any where near proficient
at competing.....take that to heart, as I hope Nascar Racing 2000 edition
will be as challenging as GPL.....and get the names right.....Nascar3 is
what the title was going to be LAST year. If you were truly professional,
you would do your homework, and wouldn't quite make an ass out of yourself
whenever you open your mouth.

You are not alone.  I and many of my friends here are die-hard sim heads
and LOVE GPL.
