Steve.
There's code to calculate the checksums in the Technical FAQ. Check it
a SUBJECT of "send f1gp-faq" (it never ceases to amaze me how stpuid
people can be - the wrong text, or they put the request in the message
body despite me saying it's ignored - please people, read before you
mail!).

One of the PC editors (F1ED 2.1) deals only in uncompressed .exes,
but that makes it totally incompatible with everything else. In
general, even the other editors aren't compatible with each other
because they unpack bits of the gp.exe it different ways. As long
as an editor had _all_ the possible features built-in, I wouldn't
have any objection to it unpacking the .exe. Anyone else?

There isn't much more to change (may be skin and socks, so what ?)
Please be more specific.
I can't launch the game within windows, the cpu-occupancy raises up to 300%
as soon as sound starts (any idea ?). Therefore i prefer a dos-based one. I
think there is need in both, windows and dos and you can't say one is more
than the other.
If it's not as complex as winword 6. :-)

Yeah, but does it fix the bug in the grip editing? That's what REALLY
matters.

BTW, if you want the code for the FAQ (ie. from the Visual BASIC
perspective, as well as C), let me know and I'll tidy it up a bit.
Steve.
I don't see the problem as long as you can repack the .exe file.
I have a shell around the F1ED 2.1 editor which unpacks, edits,
then repacks, so that the .exe can still be used with other
editors (tyre grip/engine, for example).

Okay, I'll bite... What bug in grip editing? I haven't personally found
one, but with my luck it'll get me soon. BTW, kudos for WCLAUNCH, it has
eased my life considerably. Well done!

If you use the grip editor in WCLaunch, the abilities of the drivers goes
out the window. Ex, if you have Schu at 1,1 and Verstappen at 20,27 then
the grip editor wipes that out and it becomes Schu 1,1; Verstappen 1,1.
This is the reason that it seems like you can't make one teammate slower
than the other. Without the grip editor, the ability numbers are ok.

Ahh, thank you. I had not changed the grip via WCLAUNCH until a couple
of weeks ago. I thought the teams running together was odd, but perhaps
just a coincidence. Hmmm, what if I now use GPED to reset the driver
abilities? Will I get them back _and_ have the desired AI grip?

Only if you use the latest GPED which I believe is v4.0. You can get it
at the usual sites.
However, if you are going to change from F1ED to GPED, then I would
suggest reloading the game to get the original unedited GP.EXE (unless,
of course, you backed it up). It's not necessary, but it's always best
to start with a fresh GP.EXE because they edit in slightly different ways.
