F1C - Tire wear

F1C - Tire wear

Just finished a 50% race at Albert Park (29 laps - no aids, full damage,
damage multiplier 100%, AI strength 100%, soft compound tires) and I had to
set tire wear at x8 before the tires even looked like they needed to be
changed at my pit stop on lap 15.

I'm not all that quick but I did manage to finish 7th - meaning - I didn't
just doodle around the track in second gear and not use the brakes.

By my reckoning this means that the tires would last 120 laps (or about 2
full races) if tire wear was set to normal.

How can this be right?

The developers and beta testers being very *** their tyres, obviously.

Yea this is a major bug in f1c but honestly I cant concentrate long enough
to do long F1 races so I never really dealt with the tire wear in any
version

Well, The good news is that at least you can set the wear multiplier.. it's
not something that's hard coded into the game. If setting tire wear at 8X is
what you think is realistic, then you can set it that way...

The thing is, I don't really know what 'realistic' is.  I'm pretty sure that
running two full races on soft compound without a tire change is unrealistic
though.

Yes I agree that tyre wear seems to be very slight - I have played a full
race at Australia recently with very little tyre wear occurring. That cant
be right. I think I will put my tyre wear up as well.

I have also found that it seems that the mechanical breakdowns dont seem to
happen very much when you run a whole race as opposed to when you view a
race after crashing out. Anyone else tested this? Im very interested in this
aspect and have had some cars frozen on the startline but very few
breakdowns seen and none experienced so far. And yes I have it set at 100%
damage and timescaled. I would love to experience an engine blow out in a
car in front but havent yet. Anyone tested the damage model properly yet? Ie
does crashing your car into walls etc make you more likely to experience
knock on effects. Certainly I have seen cars that Ive crashed into drop out
due to mechanical failures.

I just played a full race in the wet in Australia and none of the cars had
mechanical problems although about 10 didnt finish. What does the term 'dnf'
usually mean? Do they just retire or what?

If anyone has experienced any good damage or mechanical effects in this game
I would like to hear about them.

Does the rating of the AI racers affect the mechanical damage likely ie they
race harder. Or is it just completely random?
