Lost my game port...Help!!!

by Burke Well » Sun, 07 Nov 1999 04:00:00

My pc no longer recognizes my game port. Not sure what happened, or what I
did, but I can't get it back. When I go into my Device Manager, I used to be
able to see "Game Port" branched off in my "Sound, Video, and game
controllers" tree. Now it's gone, and I don't see how to get it back, or
re-install it or anything.

What a mess. It started with the SOS demo (yuk), then I found out my
Thrustmaster Nascar SuperSport wasn't evidently compatible with DirectX 7,
so I took the advice of several folks, and tried to revert back to my
previous DirectX version. Something went wrong somewhere, and now my pc
doesn't even know it has a game port.

Any suggestions? I'm going into driving withdrawl.....

Lost my game port...Help!!!

Something like this happened to me a  year or so ago. IIRC , I removed all
references to the sound card in device manager, powered down , removed the
card , rebooted without card and let Windows configure itself. Then I
powered down again , put the sound card  back in, rebooted and let windows
plug and play find it. Made sure I had latest drivers at hand though they
were still present in Windows/System folder. Once I did all this I had a
game port again. Perhaps someone else could come up with a better way
though.....

Good luck
David

The only thing I can add to David's advice Is If your soundcard Is
integrated with the motherboard you can disable sound in Bios, reboot and
enable sound. Win should then recognize the gameport along with your
soundcard.

Also check control panel/multimedia/devices for the joystick-setting. AFAIK it's
independent from the device-manager.
