GP2 Knowlegeables:

Perhaps you noticed my post earlier asking about upgrade/new computer
ideas. However, seeing as that's not a possibility until Christmas, I'm
still stuck with my rather ancient P233MMX system. After a looong sim
abstinance, the only sim I have still installed on my computer is GP2.

For a lark, I loaded GP2 and raced on it some. Well, I'll be... it's
still fun!

For grins, I did a Googlesearch for "GP2", and lo and behold... there's
still a TON of add-on's out there for it. I'm thinking about
"tricking-out" my version of GP2 to enhance it for solo racing until a
new computer can find its way to my home. I was wondering if any of you
former GP2 freaks can help me with some questions about the following:

Is "GP2 Edit" still the hot ticket for swapping carsets? Any thing I
need to know before I find/download/install it?

Are there better sounds available now?

Has anyone figured out a way to add sounds for the adjacent cars when on
the track?

I saw a utility that's supposed to aid the CPU/vid card interaction for
us poor S3 Virge card users... anyone have any experience with it?

Any other input you'd like to share?

As always, thanks for any thoughts.

I have had a great deal of fun with GP2 on a PII 300, then I
discovered GPL and have never looked back.
PIII 550 now and still stuck on GPL - just run it at a higher
resolution than I used to. It goes back quite a long way - are you
sure it won't run OK, have you tried? Maybe all you need is a slightly
better graphics card eg a G200?

Thanks to the two of you that replied to my GP2 queries. Sorry for so
long in replying, but I've been out of town for the past week. Here's
the comments w/my replies:

That's a great site, thanks for the link. I agree, it's time to dump my
old S3 Virge card.

Back when GPL was "new"... I was interested in acquiring and racing that
sim. But after hearing all the war stories here on r.a.s. about the
frame rate hits on machines more than twice my speed (at the time), I
declined on account of not wanting to be dissappointed. As convenient,
I've watched all the local retail outlets for GPL, but have never seen
the game offered. I figured I would put it on the shelf for the day an
upgrade arrived. The upgrade day is arriving, but no GPL has been
acquired/stashed.
