Saitek Cyborg 3D in Driver

I'm experiencing some problems with this joystick in Driver.  I try to
configure it outside the game but that doesn't work as it seems that Driver,
likes its configuration best.  If I go to the controller options I can't
configure all of the joystick's buttons, as only some are detected by
Driver.  Is anyone lese experiencing this?  How can I override the config
that Driver makes me stick with?
