Well I guess those idiots who said GP2 further development was going to
be discontinued look a bit daft now...

Just as I'd expected...

I wouldn't be so sure - this is probably a collection of utilities off
the net, somewhat like the Full Speed package...

There is an article in August F1 Magazine about a new extension pack
(including new tracks(!), 22***pits, editor, etc.)from Instant Access
Int. Ltd. Does anybody have info on it?
Thanks

Well 'those idiots' were saying that GP2 further development was
discontinued by Microprose and Geoff Crammond. This seems to have been
confimed by MPS and by the fact that there is nothing new from them
for the year that the game was out.
Instant Access Int. have published a compilation of 3rd-party patches
on a CD, which is of no use for people on the Net but should appeal to
the ones without Net access (are there any these days? :) I just
checked their web site (www.instantaccess.com) - nothing about a new
compilation, just ads for their first 'Perfect Grand Prix' compil (yet
the site seems to not have been updated for some time.

On another note: kudos if someone managed to reverse-engineer the
track layout. But I am afraid that creating new authentic-looking ones
is another story. I sincerely hope someone (without MPS' resources)
could do that.

I can't see new tracks being off the net. I'm sure this will be the
expected update package featuring 3DFX support and IPX network play.

The fact is that it must be more than a PGP style update since there are
new tracks etc...

If its a compilation then more than likely the new tracks are some of
the edited ones with slightly different chicanes etc. As I understand
track editing has not been entirely successful as of yet for Gp2. All
the gossip I have heard regarding Gp2 or 3 is that it will be finished
next year

As soon as I read that bit in F1 magazine I checked Instant Access web
site. No mention there of new tracks, but rather setups for all tracks.
Indeed the compilation contains patches from the net (I didn't check
whether they got the authors' permission).

You forgot wet weather... Check the Instant Access site. I find it
hard to believe that a company that seems to specialize in packaging
3rd-party utilities has the resources to add huge things like 3dfx
support and ipx play.
(but I wish this was true:)
