It's been a pain for me to find pick-up races on Sierra. If it's not the
ratings (yeah, I got into NR2003 a bit later than everyone), then it's
the stupid drivers and "admin".

There I was tonight, running in a Richmond race. I'm racing clean,
holding my line. Some chump driving close behind me decides to go high.
No problem, 'cause I sometimes use that manuever to bleed off a little
speed when it's one-on-one. Then chumpy comes right down on my rear
bumper, effectively spinning me through turns one and into two.

He didn't apologize, so I simply called him a jerk and went back to
racin'. The genius admin boots me a couple minutes later. What a ***.
Did he not see the replay? Since when does calling one "jerk" constitute
cussing? Or was I picking a fight? I think calling a person that is not
out of line, in such a situation. Especially in light of me not
unloading more comments.

Yep, I know. His server, his rules.

Fuggit. I'll stick to racing offline. I'd much rather race against the
AI than deal with dumb ass drivers and admin who boots the victim
instead of the wrecker.

It was probably his Buddy.  Admin's that boot someone solely for their
'Buddy' are real dirt bags.

How much do you wanna bet the admin was who you crashed into?

I'll jump in on this too. http://www.racesimcentral.net/. We run Cup on Sunday
nights, CTS on Mondays, and a T/A league on Thursdays.

Chatting during the race is unpolite towards all other drivers, as it
distracts them. Maybe that was why the admin kicked you. During a race
I'd rather 'Whisper'.

But I'd have asked him after the race whether he didn't think an apology
was due.

If abusing other drivers (even it is relatively mild) can be justified then
the argument as to what is acceptable spirals. A simple no abuse rule is
clear and for those still racing much more enjoyable. Working out who is at
fault and allowing the victim to abuse them sounds an administrative
nightmare.

So even though you feel the innocent party the rule makes sense to me.

I'd agree with the other posters - find a good league.

Cheers
Tony

The way you describe the incident it may be, in part, connection related and
calling someone a jerk over an online glitch is bad form. Might be
interesting to have a look at your replay of the incident.

You do have to realise that, due to the fact data takes time to travel from
you and your opponents to the server and back, game reality is slightly
different for each participant in an online race. The game tries to make up
for the time it takes the data to travel, but in doing so it relies on the
data always taking the same time to make the journey. If for some reason it
takes longer or data gets lost the game will make a best guess as to where
the car will go (you see him go high, he sees you clip the apron). As a
normal rythm is restored the other car may or may not jump back into
position depending on how good the game's guess was, i.e. a "warp" occurs.

Also, although I've yet to get official confirmation, I'm pretty sure the
more cars you have enabled in your fore and aft view, the less frequent
position updates on individual cars become and less accurate the position of
said car in your game becomes. I've seen errors of up to a car lenght
between my individual replay and the server replay, even with no warp
involved.

This sounds like a typical real live NASCAR race to me.

Ditto.

The genius admin boots me a couple minutes later. What a ***.

I couldn't agree with you more.  In fact I hate pick up races because of
the riff-raff that you have to deal with.  That said, I find online racing
in a league to be much more rewarding than just racing the AI.  With
leagues, your Sierra ratings are not an issue (but you'll find your LPI
should go up).  You meet good people, and it's not uncommon to have races go
green the whole way because of the give and take with the other members.  I
race in the www.informationsuperspeedway.com where I find everyone to be
very helpful, with good racing, and the best part is, it's free.  There are
also many other leagues around, so I strongly suggest you try one before you
give up on Online racing entirely.  And if you find a free league (like
ours) what have you got to lose?

Theoretically yes, but if you'd have to kick every racer who calls
another an idiot at one time or another, there'd be precious little
drivers left.  I know I wouldn't want to race there - if someone bumps
me off like a complete looney, I'll call him/her a looney wherever I
want (or need) to, because he/she at that moment deserved the verbal
abuse.  Same if I make a mistake and punt someone off, then I deserve it
for that particular occasion.  Sure, I don't yell out every time, but
sometimes there are people who REALLY should think twice at turning up
even on a virtual track...

Mike,

NR2003 is more than a Video Game :)

That's like telling Dale Jr. that his Chevy is just a car :)
