Is Nascar 2002 a step up or a $50 patch?

by B. Keith Barbo » Tue, 19 Feb 2002 08:54:54

Just curious...$50 seems like a lot of money to pay for 3 new tracks
and a new team paintjobs.  I have already downloaded the 2002 car set
and I;d be willing to be the cars that are included in Nascar 2002
don't look as good as the user made set I got.

So with that in mind, would someone tell me just what is better about
Nascar 2002 as opposed to Nascar 4 with an updated carset and
schedule?  I downloaded the demo and I just didn't see a lot of
difference in graphics and as for sound, I'm very happy with the
Mea***er sound pack for Nascar 4.

I guess what I'm asking is would someone please try and sell this game
to me because unless there is something that I don't know about, I
can't see plunking down $50 for such a cheesy product.  Sierra should
be ashamed of themselves for putting this out with such a big price
tag.

It is $34.99 at several retailers this week.  It is worth it.

Yeh it started at 49.99 then 3 days later it was 39.99 at compusa then now
its 34.99.. wait another week and you can get it from the BARGAIN BIN for
9.99

But your right, this update should really be priced at 29.99. By the looks
of the N4 arena, alot of people feel the same way

Its really hard to point at one thing and say "this is why its better". For
me personaly I was not all that happy with N4, but the fun is back in
NR2002. The AI does seem alot better, but I have not ran every track yet.
The damage model is better, but still not perfect. In all I would say its
well worth the $50, and since its on sale at $35-$40 its even better. Keep
in mind that if you spend 5 hours a week for 50 weeks that only works out to
about 16 cents an hour. Now what can you do for that. Even at $1 per hour
thats only 50 hours. I got mine Friday and already I have over 10 hours on
it so I'm under $5/hour already :)

Most all forums I visited all seem to be in agreement that its well worth 50
bucks, plenty of improvements to justify the cost. The wihinners are  the
minority.

It is worth the full price to many of us hard core types, but to the casual
gamer, it would not be...it is really NASCAR 4.5.  Read the posts here to
find out what is better and how much better.

If you have a Geforce card then you probably just need to try some different
drivers to get into the Paintshop.  See the readme for details.

Couldn't agree more.  I spent my $50 knowing full well it was nothing
but a patch with a few enhancement thrown in, but since I play this
game so much it was well worth the price.

Quite frankly the only reason I bought it was I was hoping that the
damage and AI model had been improved.  With the mods for n4 out there
you can get the additional tracks, you can get the improved sound and
you can get the '02 roster.

However, I have not done the acid test yet (racing at Martinsville and
Bristol) to see if my $50 was well spent.

Hope this gets patched.  Same thing happens in the player/opponent manager
screens.
  Real pain.
