F1 Racing - Race Setup

Hi,

How can a test a race setup. I've made one for the practise and wanted to
use the same in the race.
But it's another feeling in a race as in practise.

Thanx

You need to make your practice set-up a bit more conservative.

Generally in practice or qualifying sessions you are going for a fast
set-up, the car is much closer to the *edge* or the *limit* for most of
the lap, also you are only driving for a couple of laps so the car has
new tyres and a low fuel load.

Whereas, in a race you are still going for speed, but you will have to
drive for much longer, it is harder to concentrate and drive on the edge
or the limit for long periods so generally you want a car that is a bit
easier to handle? during the race the tyres will wear, the car will at
first be heavy, then as the fuel is used, the car will be light, so the
set-up must be stable for all these situations?

You also want a set-up will make the car reliable over long periods,
whereas a qualifying set-up is often pushing the car to its very limits
from the start of the lap to the finish, the gear ratios are at their
max, the tyres are shot at the end of the lap, the car is out of fuel,
the brakes are overheating, there is minimal wings and the suspension
settings push the car so it is very ragged to drive?

So....your *race* set-up should be a conservative version of your
qualifying set-up. Add a touch more wing, raise the ride height a
tad to allow for the extra fuel on board,(work out how much fuel you
will have on board, depending on your pit stop strategy? then drive for
say 15-20 laps and check the plank is not worn too much? if it is, raise
the ride height or the suspension settings so that this doesn't happen)
double check your tyre choice, and turn all the gear ratios down one or
maybe even two notches? alter the brake bias a tad.

When you are driving in a race you may want to brake a tad earlier or
accelerate out of a corner the tiniest fraction later, just to make sure
you stay on the track......a podium place is better than a DNF?

Sorry, but I didn't get the real sense of your first sentence...!?
But I think that you feel a difference because of different typres
and/or full tanks !?

BTW: take a look at http://www.f1racingsim.com for excellent setups
(qualification/race/wet) !

Also, man mailt sich...
