ICR2: WOW!

by Clark Arch » Tue, 16 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Just finished racing away the evening with ICR2!  After watching the
Grand Prix of Long Beach today, I was pumped!  This sim has made the
whole IndyCar season MUCH more enjoyable so far.  Driving the tracks
before the race is enlightening and I find that it is much easier to
follow the action on the television when you know the track "first
hand".  Papyrus really did a great job on the buildings!

Tonight a friend and I ran our own race at Surfer's Paradise.  We ran
39 laps which translates to over an hour of racing.  I just can't get
over this game.  The acceleration of the cars, the incredible
handling!  My favorite part of the track is the way you have to link
together the first two chicanes on the front "straight".  It was just
something, 14 laps to go, my knees hurt because the T2 pedals had
slipped across the floor, running in first with Zanardi at +3.8,
having to run half boost because I pitted 2 laps too early (what was I
thinking?), and doing everything I could to maintain that gap!

A few questions:
how can I get my front tires, especially the left front, up to
temperature on this track?
do you think that Surfer's Paradise lends itself more to a stiff,
go-kart like setup than a softer setup?
how much wing do you >need<?

So far, I've tried reducing pressure, stiffening shocks, to no avail.
I just can't get the tires to come up.  I was running little enough
wing that I could run a 5.50 sixth and be getting close to 13.5K on
the front straight?  Oh yeah, is 1:34.9xx any good for this track?

Ya, ICR2 is amazing.

*Great* question! Let us all know if you figure out a way. I'm on the
verge of wondering if there is some sort of "tire bug"; Two days ago
Rick Genter said 250 was the optimal tire temp (don't know what
compound, wasn't brought up), and on Long Beach, (similar to Surfers
is many ways), I can only get one tire around  220 no matter what I
try. There is some controversy about optimal tire temps, BTW.

You could try doing spins on the front straight!

mine is 129:09 and i am quick enough it will come down if u keep
messing with setups etc. U make it sound better than sex.......must be
something wrong with my "indycar2" i am currently finding it quite
frustrating......

I have serious problems getting the fronts up to temp here too. They
just don't want to come up. If u get an answer to this one post it up
here!!

Hmm, looks like I still have quite a ways to go...

Well, the game may not be better than sex, but it is way up there...

Been there, done that.  Wasn't on PURPOSE, though :(

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?
