Sega Rally 2 - impressions (quite long)

Not as bad as you might have been led to believe. Certainly the best ever
"arcade conversion" for the PC and with none of the disappointing slowdown
of the DC
version!!! (P3 550, Voodoo2 SLI/Viper 770 Ultra, 128MB RAM).

OK it's not RC, but it definitely is a lot of fun to play and makes a nice
break from RC's at times frustrating, though stunning, car physics.

One thing that this game definitely does better than RC is that one can
easily slide the car in what I imagine is a very realistic manner. This, and
only this, aspect of the physics engine beats the slightly "on rails" feel
of RC hands down.

Only one problem - the wheel dead zone is way too big (on my MSFF)
any ideas how to improve this - the Sega Rally web site is down at the
moment.

This is a very encouraging development in that Dreamcast games (perhaps
because they are Windows CE based) seem very capable of PC conversion on
this evidence. With Sega's GT clone coming up, this is quite an exciting
developement and proof positive that the Japanese giant is determined to
make effective multi-platform games.

Now does my mind deceive me or was there talk of Gran Turismo being
converted to PC at one time? Now that would be something.

Kind regards
Chris
