Has anyone else noticed that the race grids are always wrong.  Inside and
outside grid positions on each row are reverse of qualifying order.  Pole
position is supposed to be on the inside front row not outside front row.

Pole position is supposed to be on the ideal racing line, so in this case
(and actaully in most cases)on the outside.

Funny last time I raced at Lime Rock Park the pole position was on the inside
(like most tracks around the world).  Besides that I have never seen any one
take the turn after the left hander flat out or the turn before the diving turn
flat out like the demo allows.

Have you ever seen a guy run a 7 minute lap at the Ring with a 67 model
year GP car.
Sims and real is FEAR.

This comment prompted me to go and take a look at the pole times in
1967 now that we see what has panned out in GPL.

  See here - http://www.erinet.com/dclayton/formel1

I'm even more impressed with GPL now. In most cases, GPL WRs are
within a few % of the pole times from back then. Kyalami and Spa are the
only tracks where you see a substantial difference, and I know that in
the case of Kyalami that the track in GPL is slightly different from the
way it was in 67.

With SCGT we have a situation of about a 20% difference from real
life. IMO, that's way to much of a difference for any racing game to
legitimately be able to call itself a sim. And it seems obvious that
this is due to the magnatraction effect it seems to have. It's as though
we're on a planet were gravity is double what it is here on earth or
something.

Not quite sure, but some of the speeds in N2 are a bit fast.  For instance 200
or 201mph laps at Talladega?  123's and 124's at the Glen?  And N2 IS a sim.

No that's not why the times for Kyalami are soo different.  The track they
used in the 1967 season was the same as the one in GPL.  The best thing is
to make a search for "rec.autos.simulators gpl kyalami", since it was a much
debated subject (with postings from papy employees IIRC).

In resume..

The race was just days after the New Year, so it was more an extansion of
the 1966 season, with the teams all using the old version of the car,
chassis, motors, etc..  They also had a problem with the sand on the track
from reading race reports from that time.

In fact, if you check out the laptimes for the 1968 Kyalami races, they had
laptimes equal to the ones in GPL.
