GranpPrix 3 crashes on Windows 2000

by udo.corba » Sun, 08 Jul 2001 07:50:10

Hi,
does anybody know if there is a secret of running GP3 under windows2000?
On my system (Athlon 1.2G, Gforce2 MX, 256MB, Windows2000) the game crashes
as soon it begins to use direct 3D.
Windows crashes, and the computer immediatly reboots. In general, D3D games
do work on this machine (well, GPL doesn't find the joystick...).
GP 3 runs well under Win98, so it seems no general problem with the
hardware. Any ideas?

I looked at the Nvidia stereo drivers for my Elsa Revelator drivers and here
is what the Nvidia guys wrote about the GP3 engine.  These notes are for
those of us with 3d glasses but I think some of applies to 2d mode.  In
stereo mode you can really see where the graphics programmers cut corners.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STEREO GAME PLAY
    Incorrect 3D object placement
    Incorrect Clipping of subviews
Mixed 2D and 3D objects in Pop up or HUD
Excessive use of 2D makes stereo look flat
Bad choice of depth for HUD/Pop Up Screens
Wheels on cars are 2D blts, Mirrors are clipped incorrectly.

Grand Prix 2.5 anybody?  I'm not too surprised that it doesn't run will in
Win 2K.  Looks like they just patched it untill it worked with '98 and gave
up.

GranpPrix 3 crashes on Windows 2000

Hi there

I have pIII 1 ghz, Gforce 256GTS/Pro, Windows ME and have had a similar
problem for the last 7 days since I bought this system.
I then remembered that I had a similar problem with my last system, which
had been too fast for MGPRS2 then.

Well, the solution to my problem was to slow down the system a little by
editing the BIOS:
- disabled BIOS Video Cache and
- (I think more important) corrected the AGP Speed from 4x to 2x.

With the second point I have now a perfectly stable GP3, while it crashed
after 2 to 60 seconds before these changes.

Hope, this could help you. MTK
