Codemasters V8 Supercars 2 crashing

Hi,

I just bought this game for the PC, along with a Momo Logitech FF
wheel.  The game is great, except that in career mode it will always
crash in the Lightning Trucks Texas speedway event, after about 3/4 of
a lap.

When it crashs the display locks up, and the sound gets stuck in a
tight loop repeating the last 100ms or so of sound.  Power-off is the
only way out.

I have a P4-3Ghz, 1Gb RAM, ATI Radeon 9550 video, Creative Audigy SL
audio (also tried with an SBLive! sound card - same result).  I've
patched up to the 1.2 release from the Codemasters website - and
fiddled with the various compatability settings documented in the
README.

I've searched high and low for a solution - I found one post on the
codemasters forum that described this same crash/bug, however the fix
proposed there didn't work for me.

Has anyone experienced, and hopefully worked around, this bug?

Any tips would be greatly greatly appreciated - without progressing in
the career mode I can't open up the rest of the tracks/cars!

Thanks,

John

PS I got around the Lightning trucks/speedway thing by winning the
truck racing instead, but then I get the same lockup in the Vintage
Classic racing the Jaguar :(

I can happily report that I isolated the cause of this crash.  After
winding all system and game graphics/sound settings back to zero, and
slowly building them back up, it turns out that the "Enable high quality
lense flares" graphics option is the culprit in my case.  Turning this
off, I can still max everything else out and not a lock-up to be seen.

Maybe this info will prove useful to someone else in future.

Regards,

John
