Google Usenet archive back to 1981, but... (long)

The Google Usenet archive ( http://www.racesimcentral.net/ ) now reaches way
back to 1981, with (they say) 700 million posts. They've even given a
little timeline of "significant events":

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

That's all very well, but where are these far more significant events?:

* First mention of Grand Prix Legends (the game, not the shop) - in
fido7.su.game.news on 25th Feb 1997, a fortnight before its debut
here on ras!:

* First mention of VROC by name on 10th Sept 1998 (by ymenard):

* First mention of Grand Prix 2 (excluding hypothetical posts) on 4th
Jan 1994:

* First mention of NASCAR Racing on 19th July 1994:

* First mention of WSC on 8th Jan 2000:

The first rumors of GPL already started mid 1996

Yeah, I noticed that too.  It's pretty cool...that, and the fact that I've
never lived in a world without usenet. Heh.

You've also forgotten, though, the first mention of GPL on RAS that I could
find...

(And what was funny was the oldest post that showed before I clicked 'show
all posts' to include 'repeated' posts, turned out to be the 3rd post with
GPL... "only hope it runs as smoothly as ICR2 (nascar2 too choppy on my
system!)"...well...we found that out the hard way, eh? =)

All the way back to 1981?
Isn't that when the West Brothers first announced WSC?

:)

Hey, thanks for the nostalgia.  It was interesting to see my old messages
from 1993, and the "problems" I had back then (like struggling with
framerate in ICR1)...

First smart-ass posting Dec 95 :)

LOL, this was one of my first posts.. notice the last sentence :D

---------------------------
Last night I had a really really great time driving in GPL with the
force feedback on....
only to wake up and realize I had been dreaming.
The patch really has to come very soon now, I think it's not really
healthy now that I even start dreaming about it....

Why all the secrecy about the patch? Why doesn't papy keep us informed
on the status of the patch? We are all waiting months for it now,
surely they can release some kind of expected release date?
Why not keep us informed on the status like Jack does with his GPaL?

CRAP!

I just found my posts from various newsgroups from way back in
september 1993. I had been on the internet for 7 days when I did my
first post.

Let's all hope employers around the world wont find out about this :)

That sounds like a topic I would have jumped in on and told you to hang
on, be patient, Papy doesn't work hapazardly or quickly.  :)
Now, what I really wanna know is....
When was the LAST post concerning folks who took a perfectly functioning
system for GPL and then got a tnt card because it got 3 to 5 more FPS in
Quake.(and of course this topic will include the subnote that none of those
who DID swap out TnT cards ever played Quake.)  And then came crying to RAS
because GPL was broken after the swap.

Man... this latest addition to the Usenet archive is proving to be a serious
time waster.  I was around when RAS started, but then signed off of RAS from
'96 until '98, so I missed the whole ymenard / Indyman thing.  Now I've
gained some important insight into Francois' psyche!
