I've just got back from the Silverstone Historic Festival and the sad news
it that the 6 wheel Tyrell and Fittipaldi's Lotus 72 were in a start line
shunt (with some lesser cars) and the Tyrell looked pretty badly damaged (no
drivers were hurt). I was at Copse so I couldn't see the details but the
commentators were blaming a "Schumacher Start".

Less tragic was the Eagle Weslake failing to complete one lap, although it
looked beautiful, as ever. Other disappointment of the day was JYS only
doing one lap in Tyrell 003 but he was on top form when interviewed about
Ken Tyrell and his "froth jobs" (spraying the unlucky recipient with spit)
when he got upset.

Its a terrible shame about Ken's death.  It was sad to see him leave F1 as
he livened the place up a bit and wasn't afraid to speak his mind.  F1 seems
to have shed all its personalities - they soon got rid of Rahal when they
realised he'd got some character and replaced him with the dour Austrian.

Lets hope that they manage to rebuild the six-wheeler.  It went great guns
at the British GP support until it retired - it even led at one stage -
Martin Stretton is a top class driver.

James

P.S. I hope ITV do a special on Tyrrell and his life - it'd make an
interesting TV show.

Aug 2001:

<snip>

This would be the same six-wheeled Tyrrell (Martin Stretton) that
stuffed into the wall at the MAC100 meeting at Shelsley Walsh on 19/8,
yes? Hmm...

I hope they don't. It'll be just one more nail in the coffin of F1 TV
coverage. Maybe RTL will do a decent piece. I'm not saying there shouldn't
be a show, it just shouldn't be done by ITV. As anybody who has seen the
Tactics Truck on 'The Premiership' will know ITV buy the rights to sport and
don't know what to do with them. I still wait until Sunday morning to see
the Premiership goals on Sky Sports with official Opta stats and people who
have over 10 years experience with football analysis

Sad - i enjoyed watching that car these last few years. On a happier
note, i was driving past Silverstone on the A43 en route to Rockingham
(it was a very hard choice - Rockingham or Silverstone for the day)
and I saw what appeared to be a road-going Silk Cut Jaguar !!!

Does anyone have any info on this car ?

Martin was driving so I assume it was the same car. It can't have been badly
damaged on 19/8 if it was running yesterday, surely? This time it had lost
both front wheels on the n/s (away from the wall) and I couldn't see the
damage on the other side. They were saying it won't run again this year.

There has been one done already.  I can't remember the name of it but the
show covered his life (well the team's life) up to the sale to BAR.  It
finishes up with a segment with Ken and his wife touring the (almost) empty
old barn that the team started in (or something like that).

In the US not too long ago I caught a great documentary program on the
history of Tyrrell in F1 - one of the "Formula One Saga" programs I
think.  Used to see this kind of programming alot more on Speedvision,
but I think they've been pushed into odd timeslots by the NASCAR
invasion :(.

BTW - Where the f$#% is the FIA rally coverage of Finland?  Should've
aired last night based on past history.  Been too lazy to check the
web schedule, though ;).
