Hell, Dan Gurney drove from NYC to Newport Beach in 35 hours, does that make
him a '***ing idiot'?

for those wimpy French)
A classic story from 1960's at Watkins Glen--one of the F1 drivers was
stopped for speeding on the way to the race, the drivers often flew into
NY City and drove across beautiful southern NY State:
Small town cop: Just who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?
Driver: No, I'm Jack Brabham! (and he was World Champion that year).
I believe that Brabham was sent on his way with a "stern warning"<grin>.

Last time I was in France I felt that people was driving like they were in
Germany; no speed limit. Every time I enter Germany after crossing through
Denmark, I get this "no speed limit" feeling regardless witch country I may
enter after Germany. :)
The main traffic is doing much more than 130kmh on the French highway? How
fast do you have to go to get caught by the police?

130km/h in the dry, 110km/h if wet on an autoroute.
The traffic is likely to move considerably in excess of that figure. I'd
say 100mph would be a typical traffic flow speed.
