bug? occasional wrong car colour in mirrors

i have a p200, voodo1 3dfx, and have to turn about 1/2 the textures
off to get a decent fps.  car textures are on in front, and off in the
mirrors, and mirror detail is set to cars only.

when overtaking a ferrari the car turns from red when it's in front of
me to blue when it's behind me, looking in the mirrors.  this doesn't
happen all of the time, only now and again.

doppler effect anyone?

believe it or not it's quite annoying.  overtake a ferrari, suddenly
see a blue car in the mirror, where did he come from?, panic,
hello fence.

Same thing here (using CL Voodoo2 12mb).  It's even more frightening
when you see a blue car in your mirrors and red Ferrari blasts past, I'm
still looking for that damn blue car.  The only way I've found around
this is to eat up fps by turning on the car textures in the mirror.

:)

In ICR2, there were two colors for each car: the textured paintjob and
a plain coat of paint. The latter one was used by the game when you
unchecked the "car textures" option. Sometimes, people painting new
car sets forgot to also change the untextured paint, which led to the
same effect: a car looked quite differently in textured and untextured
version.

Assuming that Papy adopted the same approach for GPL, it's possible
that one of the Ferraris has the wrong basic color. If this be the
case, we only have to find out where the untextured color is stored
and change it.

ok, i'll try to find out if it's always the same ferrari, and tell
everyone which one it is, if this is the case.

Are you sure its a Ferrari and not the red Coventry? The base color used
when the texture is turned off is located in the 3do. All cars of a team
use the same 3do. The four "Coventries" are painted in dark blue, light
blue and light red. As base color in the 3do Papy used the light blue. So
it cant be changed until you create a new team for every color.

Cheers!

woops.  i got it a bit wrong.  it was indeed the coventry as driven
(slowly :-)) by Bonnier.  appologies for insulting coventry drivers by
saying it was a ferrari.  i guess the structure of 3do objects means
a patch wont be forthcoming....

and another thing, mike parkes' home town is given as Surrey, England,
in driver.ini,  which we all know isn't a town at all!  it should be
Richmond, Surrey, England. so there!

I did a quick test to verify my idea and found out the following:
All the Ferraris are red, no matter if textured or not.
As Klaus Hoerbrand pointed out, the Coventry cars all share the same
basic (non-textured) color of light blue. If you have "car textures"
on, but turned them off in the mirrors, you will see the following:

driver          textured (full view)            untextured (mirror)

Ickx            dark blue/black                 light blue
Bonnier         red                             light blue
Rodriguez       dark blue                       light blue
Rindt           dark blue                       light blue
