Hi everyone!!

Some news of NASCAR 2 which was obtained by Marc, the USA half of Sim
Racing News. Marc was at E3 and spoke to Papyrus about their plans for
NASCAR 2 - 8 player IPX networking!!!!! Oh thank you!!!

From Sim Racing News May 1996
E3 - Electronic Entertainment Expo, Los Angeles, CA
=========================================

HOLD ON TO YOUR BRITCHES, JR!!!!!
NASCAR-2 IS COMING TO A STORE NEAR YOU THIS NOVEMBER!!!!!

Well boys and girls, Christmas '96 promises to be the best Christmas
ever for all NASCAR fans, when the good folks over at Papyrus release
the next-generation of race simulations in the form of NASCAR Racing II.

This ain't no upgrade either, junior......90% of this program is new
from the ground-up!!!  Below are a few of the features to be had in
NASCAR-2 :

* Statistical data on all drivers (win/loss ratio, miles driven, etc.).
* All 16 tracks will be included with N2, but still no sign of Daytona
or the Brickyard.
* Dover and Phoenix will be brand-new, not just re-surfaced.
* IPX support for up to 8 players.
* Redesined, less "boxy" car-models.
* Redesined color pallete.
* Carsets will no loger be used.  Instead, you'll choose from an "Car-
Index".
* November release.

This is just a sample of the features of what promises to be the best
racing simulation to come along since Papyrus released the original
NASCAR Racing!!!  More details will be available in the June issue of
Sim Racing News, which will be available in this forum.

Happy Racing!!!

Hopefully, they will make adjustments to the AI.  I am continually getting
nailed by AI cars entering turns.  If were are going down the straight, side by
side with the AI car in the racing groove, it refuses to give it up and stay to
the outside of me entering the turns.  Instead, it drives into the side of me
refusing to give up the line.  This is my biggest complaint with the whole sim.

The interview with Adam Levesque revealed quite a bit. NASCAR 2.0 will
support the Rendition chip with a frame rate of *** 37 fps *** with FULL
detail include clouds, full car detail in the rear-view mirror and other
new features.

They are re-doing a number of tracks, undoubtedly part of the closer
relationship with NASCAR and the demands of Multi-player races. Levesque
specifically mentioned Talladega, Phoenix and Dover, but I've heard from
other Papyrus guys that Darlington will also be fixed. When asked what
changed at Talladega, Levesque replied, "Well, now you can race through
there 3-wide...!"

Carsets are going away. Instead you'll have an index of cars and can select
any combination of cars you want, rather than having to duplicate sets with
small changes. You'll now be able to paint the front fenders and more area
on the door panels and rear fenders.

For season races, you have to qualify on the grid to run in a race, you'll
get provisionals to use if you don't qualify. There was no mention of
two-day qualifying, but the interview stated that they intend to follow
NASCAR rules as closely as possible, so we can hope. Also, better
statistics for both single races and season races. Double-file restarts is
a possibility, but Levesque did hedge a bit on it.

All in all, when you consider NASCAR 2.0, Multi-player, Network play and
the NASCAR-sanctioned league, I think we could be talking a revolution in
the auto racing simulation industry. Just hope I don't go broke on LD
before they get the dial-up service ready...

What do you mean by, "Carsets are gone"?  Is this a detail change or
total whole option taken from the game?  I think being able to paint
the cars to your imaginations end is one of the better parts of the
game and is a minus in F1GP.

What is the Rendition Chip?  I am not familiar with this.  This is not
the P6 is it?

Thanks,
Randy

It means that instead of several "sets" of cars, you will have one BIG
file with all your cars in it. You can then select the ones you want
from an index.

Rendition isn't a chip, it's a company. They are involved making the PCI
3D Blaster graphics card which is based upon the Verite chipset.
Basically it allows high frame rates on PCs, without requiring a
powerful processor.

Cheers!
John

You can still paint your own cars. But with NASCAR 1.0, if you follow WC
and try to run races according to who qualifies, you need to have a
different carset for each race. In NASCAR 2.0, you will have one big
carset, and you can select which ones to use for each race.

This is something they obviously had to do for multi-player, since everyone
wants to use their own car, but you don't want a dozen #3 cars running
around the track. I assume that you will pay a fee to NASCAR to buy a
number for the year, just like the real teams. This allows you to upload a
car to the MP server which everyone will then be able to download and race
against.

It's a 3D graphics chip, used in the 3D Blaster, among other products.

No I didn't! "USA half of S.R.N." sounds like John Wallace, not me.

Watch the editing!!!!

Hi David,
I'd just like to clear up one small point.  I never really mentioned
specific frame rate numbers with the Rendition chip.  I know it will be
fast, I just don't know how fast :).  And yes, we will be doing 1st and
2nd round REAL TIME qualifying.  You'll see the opponents times being
posted as they run their qualifying laps.
