Rick Genter, et. al,
Is there any plans from Papyrus or other simulator design groups to implement a simulator for
the ARCA division and the BGN division of NASCAR racing. The only thing that is really
different is the cars (and probably a few of the rules, such as qualifying days). The engines
do not have as much horsepower and the cars are lighter and shorter. A new track pack
including tracks like S. Boston, Homestead, Hickory, etc. would be needed but for Papyrus,
these should not be a problem except the time it tacks to implement them. Gives us a track
editor and there would be oodles of tracks to use.
I direct IVL. IVL stands for Internet Victory Lane. It is a racing series based on Papyrus
NASCAR Racing. Visit us at http://www.racesimcentral.net/~ivl. I digress. Anyway, most of these
wishes would help other directors with increasing the realism associated with simulated racing
series. I myself am interested in providing the most realism that one can get from this
hobby.
My wishes:
1) Allow all AI to qualify, instead of just the top 32 on short tracks. Then take the top 32
qualifiers. That way you don't have to rearrange the carset to allow different drivers to
participate on short tracks. Add more cars to the carset.
2) Add second day qualifying for those who do not make the top 25.
3) Allow for more complex races.
Inverted fields after 1/2 the race to emulate Busch Clash events.
Qualifying races like twin 125s to emulate Daytona 500 races.
4) In the final race standings screen, it would be nice to know who was leading at the halfway
point.
In the qualifying standings screen, the track name and weather conditions should be
reported.
5) Add ability to drive your car into victory lane.
6) More statistics for lap speeds. Like average speed (with standard deviation), maybe a
graphic of speeds since the last pit stop.
7) Spotters. Voice preferably, for accidents and clear/right/left for passing information.
8) The AI needs to allow more room when it passes coming out of the turns. I've been squeezed
into the wall so many times by AI that do not alter their line coming out of the turn. They
nearly always clip my LF.
9) Ability to specify weather conditions for each race (and each race session) from the
calendar file. This would be a great help to internet leagues to ensure that drivers do not
accidentally run their race with the wrong weather conditions.
10) Different pit stalls. The curved pits don't bother me, however, I don't understand why
they can't be straight if the simulator is scaled properly.
11) Fix the Talladega tri-oval.
12) ADD DAYTONA. STEAL IT IF YOU HAVE TO. NASCAR RACING ISN"T THE SAME WITHOUT IT. SECURE
HOMESTEAD AND THE NEW TRACK IN TEXAS NOW!!!!!!!! BEFORE SEGA GETS IT.
13) I personally would like to see the third dimension added to the simulator. End over end
crashes at Talladega and Daytona would be a BIG addition to the sim.
14) I wouldn't mind watching the race from anywhere after I've crashed. From the grandstands,
from the pits, from the TV views that make sure you see all of the action (utilizing in-car
cameras as well). I suppose this last viewpoint would be necessary for those involved in
end-over-end crashes and are taken to the hospital.
15) I've never seen an AI black-flagged. Does this even happen?
16) Last, but not least. The accelerated race should be truely accelerated. As it is now, I
believe the accelerated time is about 25% of the normal time. It would be nice if this was
down to 5% of normal time.
I realize that some of these requests are quite eccentric and if it required a totally new
version of the program to get them all, I would buy it, but I have absolutely enjoyed NASCAR
Racing by Papyrus. I intend to use it forever, I'll start my children on it as soon as they
can sit up. :-))
