NR 2003 vs win2000 Pro - I need help please!

Hi all,
I've lurked here for many years and a user of Papys sim since the first
days of N1 (Hawaii, etc). Now I have a major problem I can't seem to
solve so I'm taking it to the experts .... you guys  ;)
I can't get N2003 to work in race. I can practice all day, qual and do
other stuff but when I select "race" I get booted back to Windows as
soon as I hit the "Done" button to get there. It worked in Win98 before
I upgraded the OS but due to other MB issues I had to go to Win2000.
Tried disabling various user settings on video and setting to lowest
levels. Took off the shadows on cars and used MED quality in video setup
in game due to "readme" issues, etc.... What am I missing???
I'm new to Win2K, there might be something to do with that ;)

Here's my setup:
Intel P4 2.4G 533 FSB
Intel 845pesv MB (latest bios)
512 MB Ram 2700
NVIDIA GeForce 4MX440 (tried latest 41.09 due to issues in game readme
but now using the 40.72, same prob with both)
Creative Live Sound card (latest Drivers)
Zone Alarm running in tray
Intel Active monitor in tray
Tried but removed Intel Accelerators to narrow problems - no help

All constructive comments appreciated till I can get this puppy running
again. Please help!

TIA,
Mike

Well, I decided to reformat the drive again (yesterday I had a fresh
install too) and use DX 8.1 and NOT DX9. Everything is the same
(programs and drivers) and with DX8 it works like a champ. It's got to
be a DX9 issue. Most, not all, of the config's I've seen with problems
are with XP or W2K, GeForce and a SB card.
Anyway, I'm running now ........ hope a patch comes out soon that
someone can verify before I upgrade to DX9.

Hope this helps someone before they hit the "install DX9"!

NR 2003 vs win2000 Pro - I need help please!

I experienced the same problem the first time I tried went to race. Just as
the game sets me down behind the starting field, the game crashes. I guessed
it had something to do with the fact that the game has to draw so many cars
ahead of you, so I changed the number of cars drawn ahead down from about 20
to 10, and the reduced the car texture from high to medium just for good
measure. All this seemed to work and now I can race, but I still think
something is wrong if I have to resort to reducing graphics on a 2.4G
w/GeForce graphics card. I would think my system would be plenty to handle
it.

If anyone else has any suggestions on what may be wrong please say.

CNB,
Your sugestion worked. I'm in the same boat, with the good HW you would
think that it would work better. The video card isn't the greatest but
still.................
Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'm back in the driver seat  ;)

NR 2003 vs win2000 Pro - I need help please!

My 9500 Pro anomalies continue. I sent the first one back as it worked
for 4 hours and then capsized. Got a new one, and altho it seems to
have video on another machine, on mine it sends no video signal at all
and the screen is black. Have removed it and re-attached many times.
Wires are all hooked up properly. The card may be OK, but it doesn't
like my machine! No speed or heat issues. The original video on the
motherboard works fine, except for fast games I need more speed.
