F1GP2: Car is too reliable ???

by Heru Anggono Haria » Fri, 30 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hi everybody,

After playing GP2 for some time now, I found that the car I usually drive
(Ligier) is way too reliable. I am doing a championship round and is now
in Hockenheim. So far the only reliability problem I had is a lose wheel.
Is there any editor out there for changing the reliability level? Thanks.

Heru

Too true ... I have used the GP2DAMED patch in the hope that fewer
miraculous recoveries eventuate when AI cars spin off into walls or
into each other, and then carry on regardless and seemingly undamaged.

I have blown up an engine in practice, otherwise no problems of any
sort (though I have to say watching the engine burn with 'me' sitting
there seemingly quietly knitting instead of leaping out and running
for cover is a little odd).

However, the GP2DAMED patch does not affect reliability, and finishing
a race with 22 of the 26 still going is more than a bit unrealistic
.. if you are leading (or near to the front) you spend a lot of time
picking your way through a rather crowded circuit.  It's like a
continuous opening lap.

Then again, if you are towards the back (after spinning off yet
again), it's the same story with traffic ... at least you never feel
lonely.  In GP1, if I was doing particularly badly, I could spend half
a race without seeing another car.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Heru Anggono Hariati

Interesting point... whichever car you choose has the same
characteristics as the Williams FW16. This means even Simtek or Minardi
can win a GP. Would it have been better if GC had given each team a
performance/reliability level, to give you the opportunity to drag a
low-level team up the constructor's table, or is it better this way -
after all, everyone wants to win a race, not just finish 5 places higher
than you qualified.
