GPL runs, but crashes when stop race

by ron beh » Sun, 30 Sep 2001 17:09:26

I have a 700MHz PIII with a GForce II DDR.  I'm running the lastest
GForce drivers, DX8 and Windows 2000.I installed the program fresh,
added the 1.2 patch and the 3d patch.  I put in the core.ini file, ran
the program and picked the Direct 3D card.  Everything looked GREAT
and I raced awhile.  When I exited back to pits, it crashed and then
won't restart unless I reboot the computer.  It is complaning about
not finding a glide2x.dll and redline.dll.  I did not pick glide, but
direct 3d.
If I reboot, it always runs ok, but after a race I cannot exit to pits
and when it crashes,it will not restart again until I reboot.

Any ideas, I would love to get back into GPL again, now that I see it
will run with a GForce card.

There's something wrong if it's trying to find Glide files. Try
setting the graphics to software and restarting. Then choose d3d and
restart, with all fingers crossed!

I tried that and software works fine, but going back to d3d keeps
asking for 2 dll's.  Funny thing is, if I reboot it will go into d3d
one time, just can't leave a race or it crashes.  I tried reloading
the software and doing everything clean.  but no luck.  It looks so
nice with d3d and the frame rate is great.

Have you had a 3dfx card at one stage? If so, boot into safe mode and
remove all occurrences in the device manager.

Maybe try the opengl patch, see how that goes. Yep, that software mode
is godawful, don't know why they bothered :)

Thanks, I was not aware of the opengl patch.  It seems to work, but
now I can't get my thrustmaster pro digital wheel to be recognized in
the software.  I'll try again tomorrow.  Thanks again.

GPL runs, but crashes when stop race

by KWS » Sat, 06 Oct 2001 14:03:44

Hello,

I am running a PIII 600, not near the video card you have, but I am running
in the D3D mode.

I was having the strange occurance of GPL just freezing when I exited any
track while running in a race after I got it installed - I could practice
all I wanted and I could go almost anywhere in the sim with no probs.  Once
I entered a race and tried to exit - at any point during the race - the
screen would freeze and the only way to get things going again was to do a
warm boot... once rebooted, all was OK until I tried to exit another race.

I don't remember if I got the idea here, but I started turning off stuff
running in the background, starting with Norton Internet Security, which I
run since I access the Web with a cable connection.  Once that was disabled,
all worked great.

Just posting what worked for me... I hope I have given you something to work
with!
