I was racing for the Summer Cup (offline competition) this weekend and
had set myself two setups which were identical except for the amount
of fuel. Qualifying setup had 9 laps and the Race setup had 13 laps
(for 12 lap race).

I had finished qualifying, and as allowed under the rules, had started
the race but retired early and saved the qualifying section to try
later.

I returned to the race section and started to race - but after 9 laps
the car ran out of fuel.

It seems to me it used the setup under qualifying rather than the race
setup in these circumstances. Am I right? and is that right?

Hi Alan, i can assure you that you are not the only one who has
suffered from this problem/bug..
Every time i have saved a race, GPL always selects the qual car setup
for my race resumption and consequently i always run out of fuel as
well. I have since given up on saving any races where i use two
different setups for qualifying and racing...
Hopefully Papyrus are aware of this bug and will fix it in the upcoming
patch.

Yes, this has happens to me. In fact, I have no idea what the race setup
is for, it's not mentioned in the manual, and the setting seems to have
no effect, or at least not one you can depend on.

I always set race and practice to the same filename, and manually adjust
the fuel before the start.

Does everybody else do this, or am I crazy?

When restarting a saved race, you start in the race period so in the
carsetup page you will need to select your race setup as the current setup
too.
I think it will revert back to your qualifying setup after the race.

I always check my fuel before getting out on the grid. Don't wanna run out,
and don't want any more fuel in my tank than necessary either!
