ICR2: DOS setup bug

by Yousuf Kh » Wed, 27 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I'm having this wierd little problem with Indycar 2 on my system. I went
into control options screen to change the control buttons for my joystick,
so that I could have the same controls as I have it under Indycar 1.

When I went in and tried to change these controls, each control is now
setup as "Mouse X". I can't choose anything from the keyboard or from the
joystick. And the funny thing is that ICR2 doesn't even recognize my mouse
or driver and  let me use the mouse at all.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm using latest version of ICR2, the one that
comes in a CDROM with both the Win95 and Mac version of the game included.
I don't use Win95 yet, though that's on order. Maybe the Win95 version is
less buggy, but this is pathetic, I just bought this thing a week ago.

Another thing where is the serial number for this thing? I was trying to
fill out the registration, and they said it would be at the back of my user
manual...nada.

ICR2: DOS setup bug

Download the DOS patch from either Sierra, The Pits, or any other of a
hundred sights.  You need the file named icr101_2.exe which will upgrade
your version 1.0.1 to 1.0.2.  This patch:

Fixes a bug where  set controls automatically detects your mouse and you
are unable to use keyboard or joystick controls.

Fixes a yellow flag problem where the race order would become corrupted,
sometimes resulting in cars illegally passing one another under the
yellow.

Fixes a weight transferrence bug that resulted in the driver's car
understeering after driving it.

If you plan on running the Win95 version, you need to down load the
patch file named w95icr11.exe which will upgrade your version 1.0.0 to
1.0.1 (these version numbers have nothing to do with the DOS version
numbers, so don't worry).  This patch fixes numerous bugs that were
reported to Sierra.

Hope this is of assistance.

Thanks, I went onto their ftp site and download this patch. Now according
to the documentation about this patch, it only works on the "hard drive"
version of ICR2, not the CDROM version. I got the CDROM version. Now I'm
not entirely sure how you can consider my version, since it's a full
install, which I assume makes it a hard drive version, I'm not sure.

Applying the patch seemed to cause a lot of error messages to get
generated, but no update of the executable.

Yeah, they mean "hard drive *install*", so you're on the right
track.

Some error messages are OK, a lot may not be.  (I don't have
experience with that particular patch, but I assume its similar in
action to the other DOS patch which I have used.)

Are you sure you got the 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 for DOS patch?  (There are
also 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 for DOS and 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 for Win95 patches
available.)

Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) /
Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?

Yes, you may be right about that one. I may have gotten the 1.0.0 to 1.0.2
patch, when I really need a 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 patch. I'll go check the site
again.
