Hi Folks,
Im interested to know your experience or knowledge of this supposedly great
gameport. Is it superior to the SBlive gameport (eg range/stability)? Im
also concerned about what FPS hit it might cause or alleviate. Some hardware
reviews say the MX300 is harder on fps than SBlive such as when a high
quality mp3 is running (ala high qual GPL sounds) Is this true?,
Then the question is whether this MX300 gameport  alleviates the CPU load
via some clever tricks like the old PDPI cards...  therefore evening out the
fps hit caused by sound production

Also, how is the MX 300 recognised in WIN2k or WINxp.... Does it work.....
if it works does it only work in crappy sound quality like an sb16 card?

thx in advance,
Ashley

I've been running this card for a year or two now, and have never had any
problems. One of the reasons for picking this card was for the gameport,
back when I was trying to squeeze everything I could out of my Celeron 400.
I did some comparisons between this gameport, the one on an Awe32, and the
old thrustmaster gamecard. By far the MX300 was the 'cleanest'. Can't really
comment on the CPU load. These 'digital' gameports were supposed to cut down
on CPU load. I have since switched to USB controllers. As far as Win2K it
works just fine. I had no issues with installation.
The sound is as good as anything else I hear come out of a computer. I
haven't upgraded to XP yet, but I'm thinking about it.

I used to love the gameport on mine too, but on my new motherboard, it says
something like it can't enable the gameport while on the secondary PCI bus,
so I just enabled the one onboard the motherboard.

Anyhow to the original poster,  go to www.vortexofsound.com I think they
have some updated XP and Win 2K stuff, plus they have some experts that can
help you out.

Hope this helps,
Rick Miller

Hi Ash,

I have it.  Best gameport out on the market.  I don't use it much now, as I
have USB controllers, but when I want to plug in some pedals I have, I go
through the game port.

USB wheel, gameport pedals and works great.  I did a lot of testing about
it, and the MX300 was by far the best gameport.

James

Running, PIII 866, 256 ram, Win98 / Win2000 / WinXP Triple boot.  Works
great in all OS'es.
