NR2002 newbie questions

Just bought 2002 to get some of the tracks I didn't get with Heat.  I can't
drive the damn thing!  (I can drive other games-even win now and then..)..  The
car is so touchy that the slightest bump has me doing donuts into the wall!  I
downloaded some set-ups and they helped a little.  IS IT THE GAME OR IS IT ME?
I would appreciate any idea's.  Any suggestions as to where to download set-ups
from?  Are some better than others?  Any suggestions as to how to set the
options?  ANY suggetsions
appreciated...........................................TIA

Well, N2002 (along with N4) are so realistic that they are actually hard to
drive, and not as "arcadey" as other Nascar "sims."

You're a long way from learning to set up the car.  You have to learn to
drive it first.  The easiest way is to start out with the EASY setups
included with the game.  Learn to drive them without spinning at all.  Then
you can move up to Intermediate or Fast.  You need to be able to drive the
Fast setup, be fast, and not spin out ever!  Then you can start working on
your own setups.

The Fast setups are pretty tight in general.  The looser the setup, usually
the faster the laptimes.  Also, the harder to drive.  So work on mastering
driving with the fast setups before you start downloading setups (nearly
anything you download will be somewhat looser than the Fast setups).

I would recommend watching the driving lessons (especially the part about
letting off smoothly going into the corners).  Make a note of the part where
they mention that if you let off the gas too fast, you will get loose and
spin.

There is a great driving guide here www.sportplanet.com/team-lightspeed

and a great setup and driving guide here www.sascar.com

Good luck, it will take you a few months to start getting decent :)

I almost forgot the most important part: Don't play the game unless you are
using a wheel/pedals combo.

Try to use the 'Easy' setups as Floyd suggested, enable all the driving aids
in the Options/Controls screen within N2002, and make sure 'Arcade' mode is
selected (not 'Simulation') before entering the track.

You may also wish to try different settings of the 'Linearity' slider in the
Options/Controls menu, and make sure the FF effects aren't too strong.

Good luck!

There are no setups that are "BEST"  But those that might fit your
paticular style better than others.  And that my friend is merely up to
trial and error.  Keep track of the names of the setup builders you
try...when you find one you like...remember the name and try others by him.
Good luck.

At http://www.vehiclecraft.com/n4/ you'll find many setups. They were
originally designed for N4, but work well for N2002 as well. Just maybe
reduce the Camber settings at the front by -0.25 at the LF and +0.25 at the
RF (i.e. less negative at the right front and a little less positive at the
left front tire).
