P3 - 450 w/512 K  L2 cache
128mb pc-100 ram
1.44 floppy
18 gig 7200 rpm  harddrive
Voodoo 3 2000 16mb video card
40x cd rom
Sound Blaster Live value
Altec Lansing speakers
56k v.90 voice modem
Logitech Inteli mouse
104 keyboard
15: monitor
4x4x24 CD-RW
Win 98, Norton Utilities 4.0, Wordperfect 2000

all this for $1,640

Unfortunately this means that I will be out of the RENDITION playing field
untill they release a new card.  As I have said before, ICR2 Rendition version
is breathtakingly stunning. However, I had to think of the future with this new
PC, especially since I will be away at college for 4 years. So I decided to go
with compatibility and stability of drivers which wound me up at the 3dfx
Voodoo 3 2000 card.  I really hope Rendition releases a new card soon, but I
gues this means that I will be stuck with SVGA  ICR2 again.  Oh
well....Rendition ICR2 was fun while it lasted.
But as I said before, I had to think of the future.

P3-450 is a decent CPU, especially considering its about 200 to 300 bucks
street price.  Not exactly future proof, but what is. :)  Probably the least
future proof is the Voodoo3 2000 card.  But overall, should serve you well.

Is that four Altec speakers? If not get a couple more for the rear speakers for the SB live card. It really makes a difference. I
have the little (3" square) Cambridge Works Speakers and they sound great. Headphones for late night *** :-).
With a setup like this you should have at least a 17" Monitor.
Dont forget the Steering controller. I built my own but am thinking about a FF wheel.

Lutrell :-)

Well in a month there should be the new Intel motherboard running at 133MHZ
instead of 100 and it should also have AGP4, so maybe u might want to wait
for that, but ti will expensive. The 450 is not as fast as a 600 but any
PIII is good, but your 128 RAM is not a lot and you should have 256. U might
also consider a DVD and surround sound(you'll also need a surround sound
card for that) but what is really bad is the Voodoo3 2000. That is not even
for now. You should get a TNT2. Your 15 inch is pretty small and u should
get a 17 or even better a 19.

Sounds like a pretty good computer, you should be happy with this setup.
You may want to check out overclocking of both your CPU and V3 card -
with the right cooling and motherboard (and if you lucked out on
production runs) you should be able to squeeze a bit more performance
out of your system.  *Read* alot on overclocking first!  You can do
*bad* things to your system if you're not careful.
If your M/B supports selection between PCI and AGP as the primary video
display, you don't have to ditch your Rendition!  I've got mine setup so
all it takes is a re-boot and I can still enjoy the glories of
ICR2/Rendition (even N2 Rend was better than 3dfx).  You'd need a
monitor switch, or 2 display inputs on your monitor (unless you want to
mess with your monitor plug every time).

Look into a 17" monitor if you can swing it - you'll like it much better
than the 15" in the long run.

Kendt

I really appreciate all the advice guys, but I will be living in a small
freshmen dorm (college) and a 15 " monitor is all that will fit. I got the
Altec Lansing speakers for $60. They include a small subwoofer and 2 small
satellites. But don't forget it is a little dorm room.  Are there any other
suggestions that you guys have for me?
