Db, make sure the file is not write protected, in other words a read-only
file.

to make it writable, in dos, go to the directory of the car set and type:
attrib -r drivers2.txt

that's it

Hi there

Check to be sure that your drivers2.txt file is not read-only.  Uncheck
that box & you should be ready to roll.

Hope this helps ya!

Is this a set you downloaded?  I downloaded an IRL and a CART set, they
both had this warning in a readme file:

Other notes:  I coded the DRIVERS2.TXT file as a "read only" file to
prevent the game from
overwriting the chassis & engine names to its hard-coded defaults.  When
you modify this file,
you'll need to use Windows to remove the "read only" attribute.  If you
want, modify the file
to your liking and re-code it as Read-only.

In Windows just right click on the drivers2.txt file, click properties, and
uncheck "read only".  Then open the file with notepad and change the
information you want like this:

DINFO   2 2 0 0 500 562 500 562 100 150 998 999 David_Hensley Dave
C***tesville,_VA USA USA Hensley_Racing

Then go back to properties and check "read only".

Hope this helps,
Dave

Oh yeah, the IRL98 carset was done by Jeff Schueler, I forget the site I
got it from, sorry.  The cars are FANTASTIC!!

Could be the file is set to "read only".  If you're in Win95, right-click the
filename, choose properties.  If the read-only box is checked, click on it to
remove the read-only status.  In DOS, cd to the appropriate directory, and at
the prompt, type "attrib [filename.txt] -r".  That should let you write to the
file.  Some carsets you get off the net that force new chassis or engine
names(e.g. Swift or Toyota) set the read-only flag so the game doesn't
overwrite their changes.  If that's the case, just be sure to reset the flag
when you're finished.

Have you tried to remove the "read only" attribute in Windows Explorer.
